Υπέρ της σύλληψης και παράδοσης του Ερχάν Αρικλί στην Κυπριακή Δημοκρατία τάχθηκε ο πρώην ευρωβουλευτής του ΑΚΕΛ, Νιαζί Κιζίλγιουρεκ, μιλώντας στην εκπομπή «Μεσημέρι και Κάτι». Ο κ. Κιζίλγιουρεκ αναφέρθηκε στις ευθύνες που αποδίδονται στον Ερχάν Αρικλί για τα αιματηρά επεισόδια του Αυγούστου του 1996 και ειδικότερα για τη δολοφονία του Τάσου Ισαάκ, σημειώνοντας ότι υπάρχουν στοιχεία που, όπως ανέφερε, τον συνδέουν με τη διοργάνωση των γεγονότων. «Κανείς δεν ξεχνά την ευθύνη που φέρει και ο ίδιος για τη δολοφονία του Σολωμού και το λιντσάρισμα του Τάσου Ισαάκ», ανέφερε, μεταξύ άλλων, ο πρώην ευρωβουλευτής. Όπως υποστήριξε, ο Αρικλί ήταν ένας από εκείνους που είχαν οργανώσει την παρουσία ατόμων που μεταφέρθηκαν από την Τουρκία, μεταξύ των οποίων και μέλη των Γκρίζων Λύκων, στη γραμμή αντιπαράθεσης. «Έχουμε στοιχεία που δείχνουν ότι ήταν ένας από αυτούς που οργάνωσε όλη αυτή την ιστορία, άρα φέρει τεράστιες ευθύνες», είπε. Ερωτηθείς κατά πόσο θεωρεί ότι νομιμοποιείται το αίτημα για έκδοση του Αρίκλι στην Κυπριακή Δημοκρατία, ο Νιαζί Κιζίλγιουρεκ απάντησε καταφατικά. «Βεβαίως», είπε, παραπέμποντας και στην υπόθεση σε επίπεδο Interpol. Την ίδια ώρα, ο πρώην ευρωβουλευτής ξεκαθάρισε ότι το συγκεκριμένο ζήτημα δεν θα πρέπει να αποτελέσει αντικείμενο των συνομιλιών για το Κυπριακό μεταξύ των δύο ηγετών. «Συμφωνώ ότι δεν μπορούν να συζητούν οι δύο ηγέτες και ένας ηγέτης να ζητήσει από τον άλλο να παραδώσει κάποιον στο τραπέζι των συνομιλιών. Σίγουρα αυτό είναι θέμα δικαιοσύνης», τόνισε. «Παντουρκιστής που υποτιμά την τουρκοκυπριακή κοινότητα» Ο Νιαζί Κιζίλγιουρεκ εξαπέλυσε παράλληλα σφοδρή κριτική κατά του Ερχάν Αρικλί για την πολιτική του δράση στα κατεχόμενα, χαρακτηρίζοντάς τον «παντουρκιστή-εθνικιστή». Όπως ανέφερε, ο Αρικλί ακολουθεί μια πολιτική που διαχωρίζει τους εποίκους από τους Τουρκοκύπριους και βρίσκεται σε έντονη αντιπαράθεση με μέρος της τουρκοκυπριακής κοινότητας γύρω από ζητήματα ταυτότητας. «Μιλάμε για έναν πολύ παντουρκιστή-εθνικιστή, ο οποίος υποτιμά την τουρκοκυπριακή κοινότητα ουσιαστικά», είπε, προσθέτοντας ότι οι περισσότεροι Τουρκοκύπριοι δεν τον βλέπουν με συμπάθεια. «Αυξάνεται το εθνοτικό μίσος» Ιδιαίτερη αναφορά έκανε ο πρώην ευρωβουλευτής και στα γεγονότα του 1996, θυμίζοντας ότι είχε καταδικάσει δημόσια τότε το λιντσάρισμα του Τάσου Ισαάκ. Σημείωσε ότι πολλοί Τουρκοκύπριοι είχαν αντιδράσει στη βαρβαρότητα των γεγονότων, εκφράζοντας ωστόσο σήμερα έντονη ανησυχία για την πορεία των σχέσεων μεταξύ των δύο κοινοτήτων. «Βλέπω πως αλλάζει το κλίμα σταδιακά, πως αυξάνεται το εθνοτικό μίσος και στις δύο πλευρές. Είναι κάτι που με ανησυχεί πάρα πολύ», ανέφερε. Κατά τον ίδιο, παρά το γεγονός ότι σήμερα γίνεται λόγος για ένα κοινό μέλλον στο πλαίσιο μιας ομοσπονδιακής πολιτείας εντός της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης, σε επίπεδο κοινωνίας παρατηρείται αντίθετη πορεία. Επέκρινε μάλιστα τις «πολιτικές ελίτ και στις δύο κοινότητες», υποστηρίζοντας ότι έχουν μετατρέψει το Κυπριακό σε ένα ζήτημα διαπραγμάτευσης του «τι θα δώσεις και τι θα πάρω», χωρίς να καλλιεργείται παράλληλα κουλτούρα συμφιλίωσης. Ο Νιαζί Κιζίλγιουρεκ κατέληξε τονίζοντας ότι Ελληνοκύπριοι και Τουρκοκύπριοι «πρέπει να κάνουν τα πάντα για να γλιτώσουμε από τη μόνιμη διχοτόμηση της Κύπρου», την οποία χαρακτήρισε «καταστροφή».
Το Ισραήλ δήλωσε σήμερα ότι η «ζώνη ασφαλείας» που κατέχει ο στρατός του στον νότιο Λίβανο έχει πλέον εδραιωθεί με την κατάληψη ενός λόφου που αποτελούσε στρατηγική θέση για το φιλοϊρανικό κίνημα Χεζμπολάχ. Ο ισραηλινός στρατός ανακοίνωσε χθες, Πέμπτη, το βράδυ, την κατάληψη του λόφου, που βρίσκεται βόρεια του ποταμού Λιτάνι, στο όριο της κατεχόμενης από το Ισραήλ ζώνης στον νότιο Λίβανο. «Η κατάληψη του λόφου Άλι Τάχερ σηματοδοτεί την ολοκλήρωση του ελέγχου (από το Ισραήλ) της ζώνης ασφαλείας στον νότιο Λίβανο», δήλωσε ο υπουργός Άμυνας Ισραέλ Κατς σε βίντεο που μετέδωσαν οι υπηρεσίες του. Σύμφωνα με το Ισραήλ, η Χεζμπολάχ είχε κατασκευάσει σήραγγες σε αυτόν τον τομέα που της επέτρεπαν να εξαπολύει drones και πυραύλους εναντίον ισραηλινών στρατιωτικών θέσεων στον νότιο Λίβανο, καθώς και στο βόρειο Ισραήλ στην άλλη πλευρά των συνόρων. Ο ισραηλινός στρατός θα «σταματήσει τώρα να εξουδετερώνει τις σήραγγες αυτές» και θα ενισχύσει τις θέσεις του στον λόφο για να «εμποδίσει τον εχθρό να ανακαταλάβει θέση στη ζώνη», είπε ο Κατς. «Το Ισραήλ δεν θα αποσυρθεί από τη ζώνη ασφαλείας στον Λίβανο μέχρι να αφοπλιστεί η Χεζμπολάχ», επέμεινε ο Ισραηλινός υπουργός Άμυνας. Ο λόφος Άλι Τάχερ είναι μια στρατηγική θέση για τη Χεζμπολάχ η οποία είχε δημιουργήσει εκεί ένα υπόγειο κέντρο διοίκησης. Η Χεζμπολάχ δεν έχει επιβεβαιώσει την απώλεια της θέσης αυτής, που βρίσκεται περίπου δέκα χιλιόμετρα από τα σύνορα με το Ισραήλ και γύρω από την οποία επικεντρώνεται η βία εδώ και εβδομάδες. Στα τέλη Μαΐου, το Ισραήλ είχε πάρει τον έλεγχο μιας άλλης στρατηγικής θέσης στον νότιο Λίβανο, του μεσαιωνικού οχυρού του Μποφόρ, που βρίσκεται κοντά στον λόφο. Το ισλαμιστικό κίνημα Χεζμπολάχ έσυρε τον Μάρτιο τον Λίβανο στον περιφερειακό πόλεμο σε ένδειξη αλληλεγγύης με το Ιράν, όμως η βία μειώθηκε σε ένταση μετά τη συνεννόηση στην οποία κατέληξαν το Ιράν και οι Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες τον Ιούνιο, παράλληλα με τη συμφωνία ανάμεσα στον Λίβανο και το Ισραήλ. Κατά τις διαπραγματεύσεις Λιβάνου-Ισραήλ υπό την αιγίδα των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών αυτές οι τελευταίες πρότειναν ο στρατός του Λιβάνου να πάρει τον έλεγχο του λόφου Άλι Τάχερ, όμως η Χεζμπολάχ αρνήθηκε, δήλωσε στο Γαλλικό Πρακτορείο πηγή προσκείμενη στους συμμετέχοντες. Ο λόφος, που δεσπόζει της πόλης Ναμπατίγε και των γύρω χωριών, βρίσκεται στο όριο της κατεχόμενης από το Ισραήλ ζώνης στον νότο. Σύμφωνα με τον ειδικό σε στρατιωτικά θέματα Ριάντ Καχουατζί, κάτω από τον λόφο βρισκόταν «ένα δίκτυο σηράγγων» που «συνδέει τα χωριά με τη γύρω περιοχή». Ο ισραηλινός στρατός δήλωσε πως αυτό «το υπόγειο στρατηγικό δίκτυο» περιελάμβανε «κέντρα διοίκησης και αίθουσες αποθήκευσης όπλων» και ότι κατασκευαζόταν για «περισσότερες από δύο δεκαετίες». Ο Ριάντ Καχουατζί, που είναι διευθυντής του κέντρου INEGMA, υπογραμμίζει τη στρατηγική θέση αυτού του λόφου που ελέγχει την πρόσβαση στην Ιγκλίμ αλ-Τούφα, μια περιοχή πιο μακριά από τα σύνορα που θεωρείται προπύργιο της Χεζμπολάχ, καθώς και στο δυτικό τμήμα της κοιλάδας Μπεκάα, στα ανατολικό τμήμα της χώρας. «Ο έλεγχος αυτού του λόφου θα έδινε στους Ισραηλινούς εύκολη πρόσβαση σε αυτές τις δύο περιοχές», εξηγεί. Σε συνάντηση με δημοσιογράφους τον Αύγουστο, ο εκπρόσωπος της Χεζμπολάχ Γιούσεφ αλ Ζέιν είχε αρνηθεί να διευκρινίσει τον αριθμό των μαχητών της Χεζμπολάχ που είχαν οχυρωθεί σε αυτή τη θέση, διέψευσε όμως την παρουσία Ιρανών συμβούλων ή μαχητών, σύμφωνα με ΜΜΕ. Είχε πει πως ο Ισραηλινός πρωθυπουργός Μπενιαμίν Νετανιάχου «υπερέβαλλε» όσον αφορά τη σημασία αυτής της θέσης «για προεκλογικούς λόγους». Ο λόφος Άλι Τάχερ βρίσκεται βόρεια του ποταμού Λιτάνι, που αποτελεί το όριο των ζωνών απ΄όπου η Χεζμπολάχ είχε δεχθεί να αφοπλιστεί μετά τον προηγούμενο πόλεμο με το Ισραήλ, που τελείωσε τον Νοέμβριο του 2024. Στη διάρκεια του τελευταίου πολέμου που ξέσπασε τον Μάρτιο, οι ισραηλινοί αεροπορικοί βομβαρδισμοί προκάλεσαν τουλάχιστον 4.300 θανάτους, σύμφωνα με τις αρχές του Λιβάνου. Παρά την κατάπαυση του πυρός που κηρύχθηκε τον Ιούνιο, οι συγκρούσεις συνεχίστηκαν γύρω από τον Άλι Τάχερ και ο ισραηλινός στρατός εξαπέλυσε στις 15 Αυγούστου πλήγματα που προκάλεσαν τον θάνατο 11 ανθρώπων, λέγοντας ότι ανταπέδιδε επίθεση στους στρατιώτες του στην περιοχή αυτού του στρατηγικού λόφου. Economic sentiment in Cyprus improved for the fourth consecutive month in July, on improved business confidence in the services and retail trade sectors, according to the benchmark index compiled by the Economics Research Centre of the University of Cyprus.
