Η απόφαση που έλαβε την Πέμπτη η Επιτροπή Υπουργών του Συμβουλίου της Ευρώπης θεωρείται από νομικούς κύκλους στα κατεχόμενα ως σημαντική εξέλιξη για το περιουσιακό, καθώς ανοίγει τον δρόμο για ενδεχόμενη νέα ερμηνεία από το Ευρωπαϊκό Δικαστήριο Ανθρωπίνων Δικαιωμάτων (ΕΔΑΔ) σχετικά με τις υποχρεώσεις της Τουρκίας στην υπόθεση Cyprus v. Turkey. Ο πρόεδρος του τουρκοκυπριακού δικηγορικού συλλόγου, Χασάν Εσένταγλι, σε εκτενή παρέμβασή του υποστήριξε ότι, παρότι η απόφαση δεν αφορά άμεσα τη λειτουργία της «επιτροπής ακίνητης περιουσίας», δεν μπορεί να χαρακτηριστεί ως μια απλή διαδικαστική εξέλιξη.
