«Το πάρτι έχει τελειώσει», δήλωσε ο Πρόεδρος της Δημοκρατίας, απαντώντας στις επικρίσεις που δέχεται η Κυβέρνηση σε σχέση με τους διορισμούς στους ημικρατικούς οργανισμούς. Ο Πρόεδρος Χριστοδουλίδης σε δηλώσεις του στους δημοσιογράφους χαρακτήρισε αναμενόμενες τις αντιδράσεις, υποστηρίζοντας ότι στο παρελθόν ακολουθούνταν πρακτικές κομματικού διαμοιρασμού των θέσεων. «Είναι αναμενόμενα για μένα, γιατί πολύ απλά το πάρτι έχει τελειώσει. Ένα πάρτι που συνήθισαν να κάνουν στο παρελθόν, να μοιράζουν τέσσερα στον έναν, τρία στον άλλο, δύο στον έναν, ένα στον άλλο και καθεξής», ανέφερε. Ξεκαθάρισε παράλληλα ότι δεν προτίθεται να ακολουθήσει ανάλογη πρακτική. «Και θα το ακολουθήσω σίγουρα, να σταματήσει αυτό το πάρτι», σημείωσε. Αναφερόμενος στις επικρίσεις περί «πλιάτσικου» από πλευράς Κυβέρνησης, ο Πρόεδρος απάντησε σε έντονο ύφος, παραπέμποντας στη Cyta και σε υποθέσεις του παρελθόντος. «Μάλιστα, είδα και κάποια αναφορά για πλιάτσικο της Κυβέρνησης. Νομίζω ότι ο κόσμος έχει κρίση. Θέλω να σας θυμίσω το πλιάτσικο της Cyta και ποιοι κάθισαν στο σκαμνί και κατέληξαν στη φυλακή και ποιο κόμμα επωφελήθηκε από αυτό το πλιάτσικο», ανέφερε. Στη συνέχεια έστρεψε τα πυρά του προς ΔΗΣΥ και ΑΚΕΛ, κάνοντας λόγο για καθημερινές ανακοινώσεις από τα δύο κόμματα και σχολιάζοντας ότι παρουσιάζουν ομοιότητες. «Άρα, αντιλαμβάνομαι ότι κάποια κόμματα και αναφέρομαι ειδικότερα στον ΔΗΣΥ και το ΑΚΕΛ, γιατί βλέπω καθημερινά αριθμό ανακοινώσεων και από τα δύο κόμματα– είναι πολύ ενδιαφέρον ότι αυτές οι ανακοινώσεις είναι ταυτόσημες. Ίσως τους προτρέπω να τις δουλεύουν από κοινού», είπε. Ο Πρόεδρος επανέλαβε, τέλος, ότι η Κυβέρνηση δεν πρόκειται να επιστρέψει σε πρακτικές που, όπως υποστήριξε, ακολουθούνταν στο παρελθόν στους διορισμούς σε ημικρατικούς οργανισμούς. «Άτομα χωρίς κομματικές ταυτότητες σε θέσεις επικεφαλής» Υπεραμυνόμενος της διαδικασίας που ακολουθείται για τους διορισμούς, ο Πρόεδρος έκανε ιδιαίτερη αναφορά στο Γνωμοδοτικό Συμβούλιο, σημειώνοντας ότι τόσο το Συμβούλιο όσο και τα μέλη του «κάνουν μια εξαιρετική δουλειά». Όπως ανέφερε, το 80% όσων έχουν διοριστεί στους ημικρατικούς οργανισμούς επιλέχθηκαν στη βάση των συστάσεων του Γνωμοδοτικού Συμβουλίου. Τόνισε, μάλιστα, ότι μέσα από τη διαδικασία έχουν διοριστεί πρόσωπα τα οποία στο παρελθόν δεν θα μπορούσαν, όπως είπε, να φανταστούν ότι θα βρίσκονταν σε τέτοιες θέσεις, καθώς δεν διαθέτουν κομματική ταυτότητα ή «κομματικό χρώμα». «Άτομα τα οποία ποτέ δεν μπορούσαν να φανταστούν ότι θα διοριστούν, γιατί δεν έχουν κομματικές ταυτότητες, δεν έχουν κομματικό χρώμα, και βρίσκονται όχι μόνο σε ημικρατικούς οργανισμούς αλλά και επικεφαλής σε αυτούς τους ημικρατικούς οργανισμούς», ανέφερε. «Οι ημικρατικοί είναι βραχίονες της εκτελεστικής εξουσίας» Ο Πρόεδρος υπογράμμισε την ίδια ώρα ότι οι ημικρατικοί οργανισμοί αποτελούν «βραχίονες της εκτελεστικής εξουσίας» και, ως εκ τούτου, θα πρέπει να κινούνται στην κατεύθυνση των πολιτικών επιλογών της Κυβέρνησης. Έφερε ως παράδειγμα τον τομέα της ενέργειας, σημειώνοντας ότι η ΑΗΚ δεν μπορεί να λειτουργεί σε διαφορετική κατεύθυνση από εκείνη που προτάσσει η Κυβέρνηση. «Όταν εργαζόμαστε για το θέμα της ενέργειας, η ΑΗΚ δεν μπορεί να λειτουργεί διαφορετικά από αυτό που η Κυβέρνηση προτάσσει», είπε. Ο Πρόεδρος επανήλθε ακολούθως στις επικρίσεις ΔΗΣΥ και ΑΚΕΛ, σημειώνοντας ότι υπάρχει ακόμη πολύς χρόνος μέχρι τις εκλογές και στέλνοντας μήνυμα προς τις ηγεσίες των δύο κομμάτων. «Αυτή η ταύτιση που βλέπω σε όλα τα θέματα, αυτή η επιθυμία να βγάζουν πολλές ανακοινώσεις...», σχολίασε, σημειώνοντας ότι κάποιες ημέρες ο αριθμός των ανακοινώσεων σχεδόν διπλασιάζεται. Καταλήγοντας, ξεκαθάρισε ότι η Κυβέρνηση θα συνεχίσει τη δική της πορεία, επικεντρωμένη, όπως είπε, στις προκλήσεις που έχει να αντιμετωπίσει και λογοδοτώντας στους πολίτες. Νέα ένταση προκαλούν στη Γροιλανδία οι κινήσεις μιας αμερικανικής πετρελαϊκής εταιρείας με διασυνδέσεις με τον Ντόναλντ Τραμπ, η οποία προετοιμάζει γεωτρήσεις σε μια απομακρυσμένη περιοχή του τεράστιου αρκτικού νησιού, χωρίς να έχει λάβει ακόμη την απαιτούμενη έγκριση των τοπικών αρχών. Τις τελευταίες ημέρες, σύμφωνα με τον Guardian, υλικά και εξοπλισμός που προορίζονται για την προετοιμασία των γεωτρήσεων μεταφέρθηκαν στην ανατολική ακτή της Γροιλανδίας, την ώρα που ο Αμερικανός πρόεδρος επαναφέρει τις απειλές του για απόκτηση του ελέγχου της περιοχής από τις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες. Η κίνηση προκάλεσε την αντίδραση της κυβέρνησης της Γροιλανδίας, η οποία απηύθυνε «ισχυρή προειδοποίηση», ξεκαθαρίζοντας ότι δεν είχε δοθεί άδεια για την αποβίβαση του εξοπλισμού. «Όλα τα μελλοντικά ζητήματα εφοδιαστικής πρέπει να γνωστοποιούνται και να εγκρίνονται από την αρμόδια αρχή ορυκτών πόρων προτού πραγματοποιηθούν» ανέφερε σε ανακοίνωσή της. Στο επίκεντρο της νέας διένεξης βρίσκεται η Greenland Energy, μια εταιρεία με έδρα το Τέξας, που ιδρύθηκε μόλις το περασμένο έτος. Στελέχη της υποστηρίζουν ότι στην περιοχή Jameson Land ενδέχεται να υπάρχουν αποθέματα αργού πετρελαίου, αξίας ενός τρισ. δολαρίων και έχουν ανακοινώσει σχέδιο επένδυσης 60 εκατ. δολαρίων για τη διάνοιξη δύο γεωτρήσεων, προκειμένου να διαπιστωθεί εάν οι εκτιμήσεις τους επιβεβαιώνονται. Η Γροιλανδία έχει σταματήσει από το 2021 να εκδίδει νέες άδειες έρευνας για πετρέλαιο για περιβαλλοντικούς λόγους. Ωστόσο, η βρετανική εταιρεία 80 Mile είχε ήδη εξασφαλίσει δικαιώματα έρευνας στην περιοχή Jameson Land. Το δανικό ερευνητικό μέσο Danwatch επικαλέστηκε επίσης τον επικεφαλής της ναυτιλιακής εταιρείας που πραγματοποίησε τη μεταφορά, ο οποίος επιβεβαίωσε ότι η παράδοση προοριζόταν για την Greenland Energy. Η εταιρεία λέει ότι πλησιάζουν οι εγκρίσεις Η Greenland Energy αρνήθηκε να απαντήσει στις ερωτήσεις του Guardian σχετικά με την υπόθεση. Η απαραίτητη άδεια, πάντως, δεν έχει ακόμη δοθεί. Το δίλημμα για την κυβέρνηση της Γροιλανδίας Η υπόθεση δημιουργεί ένα ιδιαίτερα ευαίσθητο πολιτικό δίλημμα για τις αρχές της Γροιλανδίας. Ως ημιαυτόνομη περιοχή του Βασιλείου της Δανίας, η Γροιλανδία διαθέτει το δικαίωμα να λαμβάνει η ίδια τις αποφάσεις που αφορούν τους φυσικούς της πόρους. Οι εκλεγμένοι ηγέτες της καλούνται τώρα να αποφασίσουν εάν θα επιτρέψουν τις πετρελαϊκές γεωτρήσεις. Υπάρχει όμως και μια πρόσθετη περιβαλλοντική παράμετρος: οι σχεδιαζόμενες γεωτρήσεις φαίνεται ότι βρίσκονται μέσα σε περιοχή προστασίας, που καλύπτεται από τη Σύμβαση Ραμσάρ για τους υγροτόπους. Η κυβέρνηση θα μπορούσε να εγκρίνει το project παρά τις περιβαλλοντικές ενστάσεις. Θα μπορούσε όμως και να το απορρίψει, με ορισμένους να εκφράζουν φόβους ότι μια τέτοια απόφαση θα μπορούσε να προσφέρει στον Τραμπ ένα νέο πρόσχημα για να εντείνει την πίεση που ασκεί για τον έλεγχο της Γροιλανδίας. Η κυβέρνηση της Γροιλανδίας ανακοίνωσε ότι δεν θα ήταν «αναλογικό» να απαιτήσει την απομάκρυνση του εξοπλισμού που έχει ήδη μεταφερθεί στην περιοχή. Economic sentiment in Cyprus improved for the fourth consecutive month in July, on improved business confidence in the services and retail trade sectors, according to the benchmark index compiled by the Economics Research Centre of the University of Cyprus. The Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI-CypERC) increased by 0.7 points to 101.5 compared with June, but remained far below the monthly index throughout the past 12 months.
