Η Τουρκία, βασικός σύμμαχος των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών και τρίτος μεγαλύτερος εμπορικός εταίρος του Ιράν, κινδυνεύει να χάσει έναν σημαντικό προμηθευτή ενέργειας, εάν η Ουάσιγκτον υλοποιήσει την απειλή της για οικονομική απομόνωση της Τεχεράνης. Σύμφωνα με δημοσίευμα του Bloomberg, οι αμερικανικές προειδοποιήσεις προς οποιαδήποτε χώρα συνεχίσει τις επιχειρηματικές δραστηριότητες με το Ιράν δημιουργούν ερωτήματα σχετικά με το πώς η Άγκυρα θα διαχειριστεί μια πιθανή διακοπή των δεσμών με έναν από τους μεγαλύτερους προμηθευτές φυσικού αερίου της. Η Τουρκία δεν διέκοψε τις εισαγωγές από το Ιράν ακόμη και όταν έγινε στόχος τεσσάρων ιρανικών πυραύλων κατά τις πρώτες εβδομάδες της σύγκρουσης. Αυτό ενισχύει το ενδεχόμενο απευθείας επικοινωνίας του Λευκού Οίκου με τον Τούρκο Πρόεδρο Ρετζέπ Ταγίπ Ερντογάν, με τον οποίο ο Τραμπ διατηρεί καλές σχέσεις. Σύμφωνα με άτομα που γνωρίζουν το θέμα, οι επιπλέον ποσότητες αποτελούν το λεγόμενο «make-up gas», δηλαδή αέριο που αντισταθμίζει προμήθειες οι οποίες είχαν πληρωθεί αλλά δεν παραδόθηκαν κατά τη διάρκεια ισχύος της συμφωνίας. Το Ιράν είχε ανακοινώσει το 2024 ότι βρίσκονταν σε εξέλιξη διαπραγματεύσεις για μια νέα συμφωνία, ενδεχομένως με αυξημένους όγκους. Ωστόσο, ο Τούρκος υπουργός Ενέργειας Αλπαρσλάν Μπαϊρακτάρ δήλωσε τον Απρίλιο ότι δεν διεξάγονταν συνομιλίες λόγω του πολέμου. Τα τελευταία χρόνια η Άγκυρα έχει εντείνει τις προσπάθειες διαφοροποίησης των πηγών εφοδιασμού, υπογράφοντας νέες συμβάσεις για αέριο μέσω αγωγών και LNG. Παράλληλα, αυξάνει την εγχώρια παραγωγή, επιδιώκοντας να περιορίσει την εξάρτησή της από τις εισαγωγές. Ο Μπαϊρακτάρ δήλωσε τον Αύγουστο ότι οι αποθηκευτικοί χώροι της χώρας είναι γεμάτοι. Economic sentiment in Cyprus improved for the fourth consecutive month in July, on improved business confidence in the services and retail trade sectors, according to the benchmark index compiled by the Economics Research Centre of the University of Cyprus. Real GDP growth in Cyprus is expected to slow from 3.8% in 2025 to 2.7% this year and to strengthen to 3.1% next year, according to the latest quarterly outlook by the University of Cyprus.
