Ο πάπας Λέων ΙΔ΄ έφτασε σήμερα το απόγευμα στον Καθεδρικό της Παναγίας των Παρισίων, όπου τον υποδέχτηκαν με επευφημίες χιλιάδες πιστοί, προκειμένου να χοροστατήσει στον εσπερινό, παρουσία κληρικών και ιεροσπουδαστών. Η τουρκική αστυνομία συνέλαβε 45 υπόπτους στο πλαίσιο μιας συνεχώς εξελισσόμενης έρευνας που αφορά επενδυτικά κεφάλαια, όπως ανέφεραν αξιωματούχοι την Παρασκευή, με τον υπουργό Οικονομικών Μεχμέτ Σιμσέκ να διαψεύδει τις φήμες ότι θα παραιτηθεί λόγω του σκανδάλου. Οι εισαγγελείς εξετάζουν λεπτομερώς τις δραστηριότητες 131 επενδυτικών κεφαλαίων που διαχειρίζονται επτά εταιρείες, των οποίων τα περιουσιακά στοιχεία, σύμφωνα με πληροφορίες, ανέρχονται σε 17 δισεκατομμύρια δολάρια περίπου. Ο υπουργός Δικαιοσύνης Ακίν Γκουρλέκ δήλωσε ότι οι εισαγγελείς ερευνούν 76 υπόπτους, εκ των οποίων «45 έχουν συλληφθεί», όπως ανέφερε σε ανάρτησή του στο X. Σύμφωνα με δημοσιεύματα των μέσων ενημέρωσης, ένας από τους συλληφθέντες ήταν ο Ερκάν Κιλιμτζί, πρώην αναπληρωτής διοικητής της κεντρικής τράπεζας της Τουρκίας. Ο Γκουρλέκ ανέφερε ότι οι αρχές κατάσχεσαν τα περιουσιακά στοιχεία όσων είτε ήταν ιδιοκτήτες είτε εμπλέκονταν στη διαχείριση των επενδυτικών ταμείων που έχουν πλέον τεθεί σε εκκαθάριση, καθώς και των άμεσων μελών των οικογενειών τους. Η κρίση ξέσπασε στις αρχές Σεπτεμβρίου, όταν η Επιτροπή Κεφαλαιαγοράς της Τουρκίας (SPK) τροποποίησε τις κατευθυντήριες οδηγίες για τα επενδυτικά κεφάλαια, ορίζοντας ότι δεν μπορούσαν πλέον να επενδύουν το σύνολο των περιουσιακών τους στοιχείων σε μία μετοχή, αλλά υποχρεούνταν να διαφοροποιήσουν τις επενδύσεις τους. Για να συμμορφωθούν, τα αμοιβαία κεφάλαια άρχισαν να πωλούν μετοχές, προκαλώντας πανικό στους επενδυτές, οι οποίοι άρχισαν να προσπαθούν να ρευστοποιήσουν τις επενδύσεις τους.
