Δημητρίου κατά τη συνάντηση που έγινε στο οίκημα της ΠΟΕΔ, στη Λευκωσία, παρουσίασε τα δεδομένα που έχουν διαμορφωθεί και αναφέρθηκε στις προοπτικές συνέχισης των προσπαθειών για επανέναρξη ουσιαστικών διαπραγματεύσεων. Τα επαναλαμβανόμενα περιστατικά βανδαλισμών σε δημόσια πάρκα και παιδικές χαρές, προκαλούν πονοκέφαλο στους Δήμους της Λευκωσίας. Θεωρούν ότι η μόνη λύση του προβλήματος είναι η εγκατάσταση κλειστών κυκλωμάτων παρακολούθησης. «Υπάρχουν αρκετά περιστατικά βανδαλισμών, κυρίως σε πάρκα τα οποία είναι σε ποιο απομακρυσμένες περιοχές ή σε πάρκα στα οποία κατά τις βραδινές ώρες, δεν υπάρχει περιορισμός στην πρόσβαση. Οι βανδαλισμοί αυτοί αφορούν και καταστροφές παιχνιδιών ή πατωμάτων όπως επίσης και αναγραφή γκραφιτις σε δημόσια περιουσία. Γι αυτό τον λόγο σε αρκετούς από τους δημόσιους χώρους μας, έχουμε υπηρεσίες ασφάλειας, οι οποίες όμως λόγω του υψηλού κόστους δεν μπορούν βεβαίως να μπουν στα 177 συνολικά πάρκα και 1052 χώρους πρασίνου που διαθέτει ο δήμος» ανέφερε ο Δήμαρχος Λευκωσίας Χαράλαμπος Μπρούντζος. Συμπλήρωσε ότι «αυτή την στιγμή προχωράμε με μια μελέτη επιπτώσεων, σύμφωνα και με την νομοθεσία για την προστασία των προσωπικών δεδομένων, προκειμένου να τοποθετηθούν κάμερες σε συγκεκριμένα πάρκα στα οποία αντιμετωπίζουμε επανειλημμένα φαινόμενα παραβατικότητας». Ο κ. Μπρούντζος, επεσήμανε επίσης ότι πρέπει να εντοπιστεί ο λόγος που κάποια νεαρά παιδιά εκδηλώνουν τα συναισθήματα τους, καταστρέφοντας δημόσια υπηρεσία. Η δήμαρχος Λακατάμιας, Φωτούλα Χατζηπαπά είπε ότι «το τελευταίο περιστατικό στην Λακαταμιά έγινε στο πάρκο Δημήτρη Χριστόφια, το οποίο υποχρεωθήκαμε να κλείσουμε κάποιες μέρες και να ανανεώσουμε τον εξοπλισμό που είχαμε στον παιδότοπο λόγω βανδαλισμών που είχαν συμβεί». Όπως τόνισε η κ. Χατζηπαπα, δυστυχώς κάποιοι δεν σέβονται την περιουσία του Δήμου. «Θεωρώ ότι και μετά από αυτό έχουμε ήδη αρκετά στοιχεία να παραθέσουμε στην Επίτροπο Προσωπικών Δεδομένων με αίτημα για να βάλουμε κάμερες παρακολούθησης» σημείωσε. Η Μαρία Χριστοφίδου, επίτροπος προστασίας δεδομένων προσωπικού χαρακτήρα, είπε ότι «η εγκατάσταση τέτοιων συστημάτων δεν είναι ανεξέλεγκτη προϋποθέτει μεταξύ άλλων την διενέργεια εκτίμησης αντικτύπου σχετικά με την προστασία δεδομένων καθώς και όπου απαιτείται. Οι δήμοι θα πρέπει σε κάθε περίπτωση να προβαίνουν σε αξιολόγηση όπου απαιτείται διαβούλευση με την αρχή». Σύμφωνα με την κυρία Χριστοφίδου συστήματα βιντεοπαρακολούθησης λειτουργούν ήδη σε δημόσιους χώρους και πάρκα του Δήμου Πάφου, ενώ αντίστοιχα αιτήματα άλλων τοπικών αρχών εκκρεμούν προς έγκριση ενώπιον της αρμόδιας κρατικής αρχής.
