Ο λαγοκέφαλος (Lagocephalus sceleratus) έχει παρουσία στη θαλάσσια περιοχή της Κύπρου, τουλάχιστον για τα τελευταία 20 έτη, χωρίς να έχουν καταγραφεί επιθέσεις σε λουόμενους, αναφέρει, σε ανακοίνωση του μετά τα πρόσφατα δημοσιεύματα που έχουν δει το φως της δημοσιότητας και προς αποφυγή, όπως σημειώνει, πρόκλησης αναστάτωσης στο ευρύ κοινό, το Τμήμα Αλιείας και Θαλασσίων Ερευνών (ΤΑΘΕ). Σύμφωνα με την ανακοίνωση, επιπτώσεις στον άνθρωπο μπορούν να προκληθούν μετά από την κατανάλωση του συγκεκριμένου είδους. Ακόμη, το είδος αυτό επηρεάζει όμως σημαντικά τους επαγγελματίες αλιείς, καθότι επιφέρει ζημιές τόσο στα αλιευτικά εργαλεία όσο και στο αλίευμα. Ο λαγοκέφαλος είναι τοξικό ψάρι, ινδοειρηνικής προέλευσης, το οποίο εισήλθε στη Μεσόγειο Θάλασσα μέσω της Διώρυγας του Σουέζ και θεωρείται ως ένα από τα πιο επιβλαβή εισβλητικά είδη στη Μεσόγειο κυρίως λόγω: (α) της ταχείας εξάπλωσής του, (β) των οικολογικών του ιδιοτήτων, αφού πρόκειται για είδος με ευρύ φάσμα διατροφής, (γ) της ικανότητας προσαρμογής σε διαφορετικές περιβαλλοντικές συνθήκες και τους περιορισμένους φυσικούς θηρευτές στην περιοχή μας, (δ) της νευροτοξίνης που περιέχει στο σώμα του, η οποία τον καθιστά ακατάλληλο για κατανάλωση και (ε) των επιπτώσεων που προκαλεί στην αλιεία και γενικότερα στη θαλάσσια βιοποικιλότητα. Σημειώνεται ειδικότερα πως περιέχει ισχυρή τετραδοτοξίνη στους ιστούς του, η οποία μπορεί να προκαλέσει πηγή τροφικής δηλητηρίασης γι’ αυτό και απαγορεύεται η κατανάλωσή του. Πρόκειται για έναν θηρευτή, με ευρύ φάσμα διατροφικών προτιμήσεων, είναι εξοπλισμένος με ισχυρό ράμφος και η έντονη παρουσία και εξάπλωσή του επιφέρει σημαντικές καταστροφές στην παράκτια αλιεία. Το ΤΑΘΕ, αναγνωρίζοντας τα προβλήματα που αντιμετωπίζουν οι αλιείς, τα οποία απορρέουν από το συγκεκριμένο είδος, έχει ήδη εφαρμόσει σχέδια μετριασμού των επιπτώσεων από τις δύο προηγούμενες προγραμματικές περιόδους, 2007-2013 και 2014-2020, αναφέρεται. Κατά την τρέχουσα προγραμματική περίοδο, εφαρμόζεται από τον Ιούνιο του 2024 το Σχέδιο Χορηγιών για τον περιορισμό της εξάπλωσης του λαγοκέφαλου, το οποίο θα διαρκέσει μέχρι και το τέλος του 2029. Μέσω του Σχεδίου αυτού ασκείται έντονη στοχευμένη αλιευτική πίεση στον πληθυσμό του λαγοκέφαλου από επαγγελματίες ψαράδες, των οποίων η αμοιβή ανέρχεται στα 4,73 ευρώ/κιλό. Σύμφωνα με την ανακοίνωση, ο λαγοκέφαλος, όπως και άλλα ξενικά είδη, έχει εγκατασταθεί εδώ και χρόνια στη θάλασσά μας και πλέον αποτελεί μέρος του οικοσυστήματος μας. Τα όποια μέτρα που λαμβάνονται επικεντρώνονται στον μετριασμό των επιπτώσεων που προκαλεί το είδος στην αλιεία μας. Επισημαίνεται ξανά ότι οι λουόμενοι δεν διατρέχουν κανέναν ιδιαίτερο κίνδυνο στις παραλίες. Ωστόσο, θα πρέπει να αποφεύγεται η παρενόχληση ή και σίτιση του λαγοκέφαλου, σε περίπτωση που τον συναντήσει κάποιος, όπως άλλωστε ισχύει για κάθε άγριο είδος. Τέλος, το ΤΑΘΕ προτρέπει τους πολίτες να ενημερώνονται μέσω έγκυρων πηγών σχετικά με την παρουσία του λαγοκέφαλου στη θαλάσσια περιοχή της Κύπρου, όπως η ιστοσελίδα του ΤΑΘΕ, ώστε να αποφεύγεται η ανησυχία και ο πανικός. Σε πλήρη εξέλιξη βρίσκεται από το πρωί της Τετάρτης μεγάλη αστυνομική επιχείρηση στη Μύκονο, με το Ελληνικό FBI (Διεύθυνση Αντιμετώπισης Οργανωμένου Εγκλήματος) να προχωρά στην εξάρθρωση εγκληματικής οργάνωσης που είχε αναπτύξει εκτεταμένη δράση στη διακίνηση ναρκωτικών ουσιών στο νησί, ενώ έως τώρα έχουν γίνει πέντε συλλήψεις. Σύμφωνα με πληροφορίες, η υπόθεση είναι αποτέλεσμα πολύμηνης και στοχευμένης έρευνας των αστυνομικών, που παρακολουθούσαν τη δράση του κυκλώματος. Μέχρι στιγμής έχουν συλληφθεί πέντε άτομα, μεταξύ των οποίων βρίσκεται ο εγκέφαλος της οργάνωσης, ένας Αλβανός υπήκοος (έχει απασχολήσει ξανά τις Αρχές για ναρκωτικά) καθώς και τρεις Έλληνες που φέρονται να είχαν τον ρόλο οδηγών και των συνεργατών του. Όπως αναφέρουν οι ίδιες πληροφορίες, η εγκληματική οργάνωση χρησιμοποιούσε μια εταιρεία μεταφοράς τουριστών με βαν ως «βιτρίνα» για την διακίνηση των ναρκωτικών. Τα οχήματα φέρονται να αξιοποιούνταν τόσο για τις μετακινήσεις των μελών όσο και για τη διανομή των ουσιών, κυρίως στη Χώρα της Μυκόνου και σε περιοχές με αυξημένη τουριστική κίνηση. Κατά την διάρκεια της επιχείρησης το Ελληνικό FBI εντόπισε στο σπίτι του Αλβανού αρχηγού της οργάνωσης το οποίο χρησιμοποιούνταν ως «καβάτζα» για την αποθήκευση των ναρκωτικών ουσιών και κατάσχεσε ποσότητες κοκαΐνης, «ροζ κοκαΐνης» (Tusi), κεταμίνης, μεθαμφεταμίνης, δισκίων ecstasy και ακατέργαστης κάνναβης. Οι πληροφορίες αναφέρουν ότι η κοκαΐνη διακινούνταν στο νησί σε τιμές που έφταναν ακόμη και τα 150 έως 200 ευρώ ανά γραμμάριο, με βασική πελατεία τουρίστες και θαμώνες της νυχτερινής ζωής του νησιού κατά τη διάρκεια της θερινής περιόδου. Η επιχείρηση της ΔΑΟΕ συνεχίζεται, ενώ οι Αρχές δεν αποκλείουν το ενδεχόμενο νέων συλλήψεων και επιπλέον ευρημάτων, καθώς οι έρευνες σε σπίτια, οχήματα και άλλους χώρους βρίσκονται σε εξέλιξη.
