Στις 3 από τις 8 ανασκαφές που βρίσκονται σε εξέλιξη από τα συνεργεία της ΔΕΑ εντοπίστηκαν αυτή την εβδομάδα οστά αγνοουμένων, στην περιοχή του Αγίου Γεωργίου του Σπαθαρικού, στο Καλό Χωριό Κυθρέας και στη Λάπηθο. Στα δύο πρώτα σημεία εντοπίστηκαν οστά ενός ατόμου και στην τρίτη περίπτωση δύο ατόμων. Ο Λεωνίδας Παντελίδης, ε/κ μέλος της ΔΕΑ, μιλώντας στη συνεδρία του 100μελούς Συμβουλευτικού Σώματος της Παγκύπριας Οργάνωσης Συγγενών Αγνοουμένων, ανέφερε ότι τα 8 σημεία είναι στη Άσσια, στη Λάπαθο, στο Έξω Μετόχι, το Νέο Χωριό Κυθρέας, τα Λιβάδεια Αμμοχώστου, στον Γερόλακκο, στον Άγιο Γεώργιο Σπαθαρικού, σε στρατιωτική περιοχή του Καραβά. Για το θέμα των ανασκαφών στις στρατιωτικές περιοχές, πρόσθεσε, μετά από πίεση τους έχει δοθεί χαλάρωση ως προς την έκταση των 25 μέτρων, ενώ το ζήτημα είχε τεθεί και προς τον ΓΓ του ΟΗΕ όταν είχε επισκεφθεί την Κύπρο στο τέλος του περασμένου Ιούλη. Ο κ. Παντελίδης διευκρίνισε επίσης ότι στον επίσημο κατάλογο των 2002 αγνοουμένων, Ελληνοκυπρίων και Τουρκοκυπρίων, ο αριθμός των Ε/κ δεν είναι 1619, αλλά 126 λιγότερα ονόματα και γι’ αυτό κάποτε δημιουργείται σύγχυση με τον αριθμό των αγνοουμένων που δεν έχουν ακόμη τα λείψανά τους εντοπιστεί και τον αριθμό των ταυτοποιηθέντων. Ανέφερε ότι από τον επίσημο κατάλογο των 2002 μέχρι σήμερα έχουν ταυτοποιηθεί 1082, από τους οποίους 765 είναι Ε/κ και 317 Τ/κ. Απομένουν, συνέχισε, 745 Ε/κ και 175 Τ/κ. Μέχρι στιγμής, εντός του 2026, έχουν ταυτοποιηθεί 20 άτομα, ενώ το 2025 ήταν 12 οι ταυτοποιήσεις. «Υπάρχουν όμως ακόμα μεγάλες υποθέσεις ομαδικών τάφων που δεν έχουν εντοπιστεί. Ελπίζουμε ότι κοντεύουμε σε κάθε προσπάθεια». Ο κ. Παντελίδης είπε ότι αυτό που ζητούν είναι τα αρχείου το υγειονομικού του τουρκικού στρατού του 1974 που έκανε τις συλλογικές ταφές και όχι τα επιχειρησιακά αρχεία του στρατού. Στη δική του ομιλία ο Επίτροπος Προεδρίας, Μάριος Χαρτσιώτης, ανέφερε ότι η διακρίβωση της τύχης των αγνοουμένων αποτελεί για την Πολιτεία ύψιστη ανθρωπιστική και εθνική υποχρέωση. «Μια υποχρέωση που δεν παραγράφεται με το πέρασμα του χρόνου». Η ξεκάθαρη πολιτική του Προέδρου της Δημοκρατίας, πρόσθεσε, είναι συνέχιση και εντατικοποίηση της προσπάθειας, με πρωτοβουλίες σε τοπικό, ευρωπαϊκό και διεθνές επίπεδο. «Ο Πρόεδρος θέτει συστηματικά το θέμα ενώπιον της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης, των Ηνωμένων Εθνών και ξένων ηγετών, διεκδικώντας ουσιαστική συνεργασία από την Τουρκία, άρση των εμποδίων στις έρευνες και στις εκταφές και πρόσβαση σε στοιχεία και αρχεία του τουρκικού στρατού». Στο γραφείο του, συνέχισε, έχουν θέσει το τρίπτυχο: σωστές υποδομές, ουσιαστική και συνεχής ενημέρωση των συγγενών και συγκεκριμένες πράξεις επί του πεδίου. Σημείωσε ότι με απόφαση του Υπουργικού Συμβουλίου εγκρίθηκε συγκεκριμένο κτήριο για τη δημιουργία μόνιμου Ανθρωπολογικού Εργαστηρίου της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας, δρομολογείται η δημιουργία οστεοφυλακίου για την αξιοπρεπή φύλαξη οστών ταυτοποιηθέντων και μη ταυτοποιηθέντων αγνοουμένων και πεσόντων, καθώς και χώρο επίσκεψης και συγκέντρωσης των συγγενών. Στον ίδιο σχεδιασμό, είπε, εντάσσεται και η δημιουργία μικρής εκκλησίας, μαζί με κατάλληλο χώρο όπου οι συγγενείς θα μπορούν να επισκέπτονται, να συγκεντρώνονται και να αποτίουν με τον προσήκοντα σεβασμό φόρο τιμής στους ανθρώπους τους. Παράλληλα, συνέχισε, προχωρεί η ετοιμασία επίσημου μητρώου των παιδιών των αγνοουμένων. Για την ενημέρωση, ο κ. Χαρτσιώτης είπε ότι πραγματοποιεί τακτικές συναντήσεις μια φορά τον μήνα με την Παγκύπρια Οργάνωση Συγγενών Αδηλώτων Αιχμαλώτων και Αγνοουμένων και την Πανελλήνια Επιτροπή Αγνοουμένων, ενώ οι φάκελοι των αγνοουμένων τίθενται στη διάθεση των συγγενών. Αναλαμβάνουν επίσης, είπε, πρωτοβουλίες τόσο σε τοπικό όσο και σε ευρωπαϊκό επίπεδο για ειδικές και ιδιαίτερα δύσκολες πτυχές του θέματος των αγνοουμένων, όπως η υπόθεση των αγνοουμένων της Άσσιας, για την οποία επιδιώκουν την περαιτέρω ανάδειξη και προώθηση και σε ευρωπαϊκό επίπεδο, με στόχο να ασκηθεί η αναγκαία πίεση για ουσιαστικές απαντήσεις και πρόοδο στη διερεύνησή της. Ανακοίνωσε ότι θα γίνονται ετήσιές δημόσιες παρουσιάσεις των πεπραγμένων για όλες τις ενέργειες για τη διακρίβωση της τύχης των αγνοουμένων και η πρώτη παρουσίαση θα αφορά την περίοδο 1η Ιανουαρίου έως 31 Δεκεμβρίου 2026. Ο κ. Χαρτσιώτης ανέφερε επίσης ότι το Υπουργικό Συμβούλιο ενέκρινε τον περασμένο Απρίλιο τη διάθεση 1 εκ. ευρώ για την έναρξη διενέργειας εξειδικευμένων γενετικών εξετάσεων σε οστά Ελλαδιτών πεσόντων και αγνοουμένων του 1974, τα οποία είχαν στο παρελθόν εμποτιστεί με χημικές ουσίες και δεν μπορούσαν να ταυτοποιηθούν με τις συμβατικές μεθόδους. Η διαδικασία άρχισε τον Ιούνιο του 2026 και, μέσω του Ινστιτούτου Νευρολογίας και Γενετικής Κύπρου και της Μεθόδου της Μαζικής Παράλληλης Αλληλούχησης, αξιοποιούμε πλέον επιστημονικές δυνατότητες που δεν υπήρχαν στο παρελθόν. Πρόσθεσε ότι έχει επίσης παραδοθεί στο Ινστιτούτο Νευρολογίας και Γενετικής Κύπρου η πέμπτη φάση εξέτασης μικρών σκελετικών δειγμάτων Κυπρίων και Ελλαδιτών από το Στρατιωτικό Κοιμητήριο Λακατάμιας, με την προσδοκία να προκύψουν και νέες ταυτοποιήσεις. «Χρειαζόμαστε πληροφορίες. Χρειαζόμαστε πρόσβαση σε αρχεία και στοιχεία. Χρειαζόμαστε ουσιαστική συνεργασία από την Τουρκία και την κατοχική δύναμη. Κάθε πληροφορία που αποκρύπτεται μπορεί να είναι εκείνη η πληροφορία που στερεί από μια οικογένεια την απάντηση που περιμένει εδώ και 52 χρόνια. Όσο όμως αυξάνονται οι δυσκολίες και τα προσκόμματα, τόσο περισσότερο γιγαντώνεται η δική μας θέληση να συνεχίσουμε». Ο κ. Χαρτσιώτης είπε ότι η πόρτα του γραφείου του είναι ανοικτή για οποιονδήποτε συγγενή θέλει να δει τον φάκελο που αφορά το πρόσωπο της οικογένειάς του που αγνοείται. Ο Πρόεδρος της Κοινοβουλευτικής Επιτροπής Προσφύγων, Εγκλωβισμένων, Αγνοουμένων και Παθόντων, Νίκος Κέττηρος είπε ότι η διακρίβωση της τύχης και του τελευταίου αγνοουμένου αποτελεί υποχρέωση της Πολιτείας και ευθύνη όλων, και ότι δεν μπορεί να υπάρξει εφησυχασμός όσο υπάρχουν οικογένειες που περιμένουν απαντήσεις. Ως Κοινοβουλευτική Επιτροπή, είπε, έχουν θέσει το ζήτημα των αγνοουμένων πολύ ψηλά στις προτεραιότητές τους, παρακολουθούν στενά την πορεία των ερευνών και των ταυτοποιήσεων και επιμένουν στην ανάγκη αξιοποίησης κάθε επιστημονικής και τεχνολογικής δυνατότητας που μπορεί να οδηγήσει σε νέα αποτελέσματα. Έχουν αναδείξει συγκεκριμένα ζητήματα, συνέχισε, που αφορούν όχι μόνο τη διερεύνηση της τύχης των αγνοουμένων, αλλά και τη στήριξη των οικογενειών τους, όπως τη δημιουργία μόνιμου ανθρωπολογικού εργαστηρίου για τις ανάγκες των ερευνών, τη δημιουργία μητρώου των παιδιών των αγνοουμένων, καθώς και την ανάγκη ουσιαστικής στήριξης των γονέων και των συζύγων πεσόντων και αγνοουμένων. «Παράλληλα, οφείλουμε να είμαστε ξεκάθαροι: η πάροδος του χρόνου δεν μπορεί να αποτελέσει άλλοθι για αδράνεια. Αντίθετα, καθιστά την ανάγκη για αποτελέσματα ακόμη πιο επείγουσα. Οι άνθρωποι που μπορούν να δώσουν πληροφορίες λιγοστεύουν. Οι συγγενείς πρώτης γενιάς φεύγουν χωρίς να έχουν πάρει τις απαντήσεις που περίμεναν μια ολόκληρη ζωή. Γι’ αυτό και κάθε πληροφορία, κάθε μαρτυρία, κάθε αρχείο που μπορεί να συμβάλει στη διακρίβωση της τύχης ενός αγνοουμένου πρέπει να αξιοποιείται χωρίς άλλη καθυστέρηση». Η Τουρκία, σημείωσε, έχει ευθύνη να συνεργαστεί ουσιαστικά, να παράσχει τις πληροφορίες που διαθέτει και να επιτρέψει την απρόσκοπτη πρόσβαση σε στοιχεία και χώρους που μπορούν να συμβάλουν στη διερεύνηση της τύχης των αγνοουμένων. Ο κ. Κέττηρος ανέφερε ότι σύντομα η νέα σύνθεση της Επιτροπής θα επισκεφθεί το ανθρωπολογικό εργαστήριο της ΔΕΑ. Σημείωσε επίσης στην ανάγκη ολοκλήρωσης του μητρώου συγγενών αγνοουμένων. Ο Πρόεδρος της Παγκύπριας Οργάνωσης Συγγενών Αγνοουμένων, Νίκος Σεργίδης, ανέφερε ότι τα μέχρι σήμερα ευρήματα των εκταφών δείχνουν με τον πιο απερίφραστο τρόπο την τακτική και συμπεριφορά των Τούρκων απέναντι στους αιχμαλώτους. Πρόσθεσε ότι το θέμα των αγνοουμένων εφάπτεται της ανθρώπινης ζωής και αξιοπρέπειας και δεν υπάρχουν περιθώρια εκπτώσεων και παραχωρήσεων. «Ναι, αποτύχαμε να γίνει ουσιαστική και αποτελεσματική έρευνα, όπως προνοεί το διεθνές δίκαιο, αλλά ως Οργάνωση δικαιούμαστε να είμαστε υπερήφανοι πως με τη στάση μας καταφέραμε να υπάρχει, 52 χρόνια μετά, θέμα αγνοουμένων της Κύπρου και να απασχολεί τη διεθνή κοινότητα». Αναφερόμενος στο έργο της ΔΕΑ, ο κ. Σεργίδης είπε ότι αναγνωρίζουν το έργο που επιτελεί και τις δυσκολίες που αντιμετωπίζει, όμως δεν συμμερίζονται την άποψη πως έχει επιτελέσει θαύματα, όπως κάποιοι επιχειρούν να δώσουν την εντύπωση στον διεθνή χώρο. «Αυτή η υπερεκτίμηση του έργου της ΔΕΑ φοβούμαστε πως θα επηρεάσει αρνητικά τις όποιες προσπαθείς για βελτίωση του έργου της και θα δώσει δικαιολογίες σε εκείνους που μέχρι σήμερα αρνούνται να συνεργαστούν πραγματικά για λύση του θέματος». Μίλησε για προσπάθεια της Τουρκίας τα τελευταία 3 χρόνια να κλείσει το θέμα των αγνοουμένων επειδή έχουν εξαντληθεί τα περιθώρια διερεύνησης και υπενθύμισε την κοινή παρέμβαση των οργανώσεων Κύπρου και Ελλάδας στο Στρασβούργο στη συζήτηση της Επιτροπής Υπουργών του Συμβουλίου της Ευρώπης για τη συμμόρφωση της Τουρκίας με σχετικές αποφάσεις του ΕΔΑΔ. Ο κ. Σεργίδης αναφέρθηκε και στα αιτήματα των συγγενών που αφορούν τις οικογένειες των αγνοουμένων. Η Πρόεδρος της Πανελλήνιας Επιτροπής Γονέων και Συγγενών Αδήλωτων Αιχμαλώτων και Αγνοουμένων κατά την κυπριακή τραγωδία, Μαρία Καλμπουρτζή ανέφερε ότι τα τελευταία χρόνια, οι κοινές προσπάθειες, οι συναντήσεις με την πολιτική ηγεσία σε Ελλάδα και Κύπρο, καθώς και οι παρεμβάσεις τους σε διεθνή φόρα, αποδεικνύουν ότι ο συντονισμός Αθήνας–Λευκωσίας «είναι το ισχυρότερο όπλο μας». Παρά τις δυσκολίες, την πάροδο του χρόνου, πρόσθεσε, που παίρνει μαζί της τους πρώτους ήρωες αυτής της προσπάθειας, τους γονείς, «εμείς η επόμενη γενιά στεκόμαστε όρθιοι. Δεν ζητάμε εκδίκηση. Ζητάμε το αυτονόητο το αναφαίρετο δικαίωμα κάθε ανθρώπου: την αλήθεια». Να μάθουν, πρόσθεσε, την τύχη και του τελευταίου αγνοούμενου και να προσφέρουν στους δικούς τους ανθρώπους την τιμή και την ανάπαυση που τους στερεί η κατοχική δύναμη για δεκαετίες. Ο Πρόεδρος της Οργάνωσης Συγγενών Κυπρίων Αγνοουμένων του Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου, Νεοκλής Νεοκλέους πρότεινε μια «ανθρωπιστική συνεργασία που πιστεύουμε ότι μπορεί να αλλάξει την υπάρχουσα κατάσταση». Η πρόταση, εξήγησε περιλαμβάνει έναν ασφαλή μηχανισμό με αυστηρό πρωτόκολλο εμπιστευτικότητας, υπό την εποπτεία των Ηνωμένων Εθνών που θα επιτρέπει στην Τουρκία να μοιράζεται με τη ΔΕΑ πληροφορίες σχετικά με τοποθεσίες, όπως σημεία, χάρτες και περιγραφές του εδάφους. Κανένα ευαίσθητο έγγραφο συνέχισε, δεν θα εξέρχεται από την Τουρκία, δεν θα αποδίδονται ευθύνες, δεν προκύπτει νομικός κίνδυνος. Θα κοινοποιούνται μόνο συντεταγμένες και στοιχεία τοποθεσίας, πρόσθεσε. Η Τουρκία, συνέχισε, θα διατηρεί τον έλεγχο των αρχείων της και θα κοινοποιούνται μόνο μη ευαίσθητες πληροφορίες και ο ΟΗΕ θα εγγυάται την εμπιστευτικότητα. Πρόκειται για ζήτημα αξιοπρέπειας, είπε, και όχι απόδοσης ευθυνών. Την όλη διαδικασία θα χειρίζεται, είπε, μια ομάδα από μέλη της ΔΕΑ, έναν αξιωματούχο του ΟΗΕ και έναν από τα αρχεία της Τουρκίας. Οι ερωτήσεις και απαντήσεις θα γίνονται μέσω του εκπροσώπου της ΔΕΑ, εξήγησε. «Η όλη διαδικασία μπορεί να εφαρμοστεί δοκιμαστικά και να ανανεώνεται ανάλογα με την επιτυχία εφαρμογής». Ο Πρόεδρος της Επιτροπής Συγγενών Αγνοουμένων της περιόδου 1963-1964, Χάρης Συμεωνίδης ανέφερε ότι «σας θαυμάζω για το σθένος σας και σας καλώ να μην κουραστείτε ποτέ, να μην απελπιστείτε ποτέ. Δεν ξεχνούμε και τη διαχρονική θέση της πλευράς μας ότι δεν θα υπάρξει λύση του Κυπριακού εάν δεν διακριβωθεί η τύχη και του τελευταίου αγνοούμενου. Ευελπιστούμε ότι η θέση αυτή δεν θα εγκαταλειφθεί ποτέ». Ο κ. George Karatzias returns to the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission to take over as its new chairman, replacing George Teocharides who steps down after five years.
