Την εντατικοποίηση των προσπαθειών για διακρίβωση της τύχης και του τελευταίου αγνοουμένου, μέσα από πρωτοβουλίες σε τοπικό, ευρωπαϊκό και διεθνές επίπεδο, επαναβεβαίωσε ο Πρόεδρος της Δημοκρατίας Νίκος Χριστοδουλίδης κατά τη σημερινή συνάντησή του στο Προεδρικό Μέγαρο με την Πρόεδρο της Πανελλήνιας Επιτροπής Γονέων και Συγγενών Αδηλώτων Αιχμαλώτων και Αγνοουμένων Κυπριακής Τραγωδίας Μαρία Καλμπουρτζή και τον Πρόεδρο της Παγκύπριας Οργάνωσης Συγγενών Αδηλώτων Αιχμαλώτων και Αγνοουμένων Νίκο Σεργίδη, στην παρουσία του Επιτρόπου Προεδρίας Μάριου Χαρτσιώτη. Σε δηλώσεις μετά τη συνάντηση, ο κ. Χαρτσιώτης χαρακτήρισε το κλίμα «πολύ χρήσιμο και εποικοδομητικό», αναφέροντας ότι οι εκπρόσωποι των δύο οργανώσεων έθεσαν εκ νέου όλα τα ζητήματα που αφορούν το θέμα των αγνοουμένων, ενώ είχαν την ευκαιρία να ενημερωθούν από τον Πρόεδρο της Δημοκρατίας για τις πρωτοβουλίες και τα διαβήματα που αναπτύσσει η Κυπριακή Δημοκρατία τόσο σε τοπικό όσο και σε ευρωπαϊκό και διεθνές επίπεδο. Όπως είπε, κατά τη συνάντηση ανταλλάχθηκαν απόψεις και κατατέθηκαν εισηγήσεις στο πλαίσιο της εντατικοποίησης των κυβερνητικών προσπαθειών, με στόχο, όπως ανέφερε, «τη διακρίβωση της τύχης και του τελευταίου αγνοουμένου», σημειώνοντας ότι το θέμα παραμένει μια ανοικτή ανθρωπιστική πληγή εδώ και 52 χρόνια. Από την πλευρά της, η Πρόεδρος της Πανελλήνιας Επιτροπής, Μαρία Καλμπουρτζή, έκανε λόγο για μια «πολύ εποικοδομητική» συνάντηση, η οποία, όπως είπε, δημιουργεί ελπίδες και αισιοδοξία ότι μπορούν να γίνουν ουσιαστικά βήματα στο χρονίζον ζήτημα των αγνοουμένων. Ιδιαίτερη αναφορά έκανε στις εξελίξεις που αφορούν το μονομερές πρόγραμμα της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας για τους Ελλαδίτες αγνοουμένους, σημειώνοντας ότι καταγράφεται πρόοδος στο θέμα των λεγόμενων «ψεκασμένων οστών». Όπως ανέφερε, υπάρχει ανταπόκριση από την κυπριακή κυβέρνηση και τον Επίτροπο Προεδρίας, με τις διαδικασίες να προχωρούν με ταχείς ρυθμούς ώστε να εξακριβωθούν οι ταυτότητες των ανθρώπων των οποίων τα οστά είχαν υποστεί χημική επεξεργασία. Παράλληλα, πρόσθεσε, συνεχίζονται οι εργασίες ταυτοποίησης μικρών οστών, ώστε να μπορέσουν οι οικογένειες στην Ελλάδα να ενημερωθούν και να παραλάβουν τα λείψανα των συγγενών τους. Απαντώντας σε σχετική ερώτηση, η κ. Καλμπουρτζή ανέφερε ότι υπάρχουν συνολικά 32 κασελάκια με ψεκασμένα οστά, προσθέτοντας ότι σε μία περίπτωση έχει επιτευχθεί, με ποσοστό επιτυχίας 99,9%, η δημιουργία γενετικού προφίλ του ατόμου στο οποίο ανήκουν τα οστά. Όπως είπε, η διαδικασία είναι χρονοβόρα, ωστόσο καταβάλλεται προσπάθεια να επιταχυνθεί ώστε να μην υπάρξουν περαιτέρω καθυστερήσεις. Η κ. Καλμπουρτζή χαρακτήρισε επίσης ιδιαίτερα σημαντική την απόφαση για επανεκκίνηση διεθνούς εκστρατείας ενημέρωσης σχετικά με το θέμα των αγνοουμένων, με στόχο, όπως ανέφερε, να υπενθυμιστεί στα κράτη της διεθνούς κοινότητας ότι εξακολουθεί να υπάρχει μια ανθρωπιστική εκκρεμότητα που παραμένει άλυτη επί 52 χρόνια. Ο Πρόεδρος της Παγκύπριας Οργάνωσης Συγγενών Αδηλώτων Αιχμαλώτων και Αγνοουμένων, Νίκος Σεργίδης, χαρακτήρισε επίσης παραγωγική τη συνάντηση, αναφέροντας ότι συμφωνήθηκαν συγκεκριμένοι τρόποι προώθησης του ζητήματος των αγνοουμένων. Όπως είπε, ο Πρόεδρος της Δημοκρατίας ενημέρωσε τις οργανώσεις για τις πρόσφατες ενέργειες που πραγματοποίησε, αλλά και για πρωτοβουλίες που προτίθεται να αναλάβει το επόμενο διάστημα, εκφράζοντας την εκτίμηση ότι τα μέτρα που εισηγείται η κυβέρνηση ενδέχεται αυτή τη φορά να αποφέρουν ουσιαστικά αποτελέσματα. Σεργίδης ανέφερε ότι στο πλαίσιο της διεθνούς εκστρατείας περιλαμβάνεται η αξιοποίηση της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης, τόσο μέσω του Ευρωπαϊκού Κοινοβουλίου όσο και μέσω της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής, προκειμένου να ενισχυθεί η διεθνής πίεση για πρόοδο στο ανθρωπιστικό ζήτημα των αγνοουμένων.
