Ένας ναυτικός από την Ινδία εξακολουθεί να αγνοείται μετά την επίθεση που δέχθηκε το υπό κυπριακή σημαία πλοίο μεταφοράς εμπορευματοκιβωτίων GFS GALAXY στα Στενά του Ορμούζ, ενώ οι υπόλοιποι 23 διασώθηκαν και μεταφέρθηκαν με ασφάλεια στο Ομάν, δήλωσε στο ΚΥΠΕ η Υφυπουργός Ναυτιλίας, Μαρίνα Χατζημανώλη. Όπως ανέφερε, το πλοίο επλήγη από βλήμα αγνώστου ταυτότητας στις 11 Ιουλίου, στις 01:40 ώρα Κύπρου, ενώ έπλεε στην περιοχή των Στενών του Ορμούζ, με αποτέλεσμα να υποστεί εκτεταμένες ζημιές, κυρίως στο μηχανοστάσιο. Η κ. Χατζημανώλη είπε ότι το πλήρωμα αποτελούνταν από 24 ναυτικούς διαφόρων εθνικοτήτων, συγκεκριμένα από την Ινδία, την Ουκρανία, τη Σρι Λάνκα, την Ινδονησία και τις Φιλιππίνες, διευκρινίζοντας ότι δεν υπήρχαν Κύπριοι υπήκοοι μεταξύ των μελών του πληρώματος. Ο ναυτικός που εξακολουθεί να αγνοείται είναι Ινδός υπήκοος, ο οποίος υπηρετούσε ως τρίτος μηχανικός του πλοίου, όπως ενημέρωσε η διαχειρίστρια εταιρεία, ανέφερε η κ. Χατζημανώλη. Πρόσθεσε ότι μετά το πλήγμα οι 23 ναυτικοί εγκατέλειψαν το πλοίο, χρησιμοποιώντας τη σωσίβια λέμβο και στη συνέχεια περισυνελέγησαν από το Πολεμικό Ναυτικό του Ομάν, το οποίο τους μετέφερε με ασφάλεια στην ξηρά. Η Υφυπουργός υπενθύμισε ακόμη ότι η Κύπρος διαθέτει έναν από τους μεγαλύτερους εμπορικούς στόλους στον κόσμο, με μεγάλο αριθμό πλοίων που δραστηριοποιούνται διεθνώς υπό κυπριακή σημαία, ανεξάρτητα από την έδρα της πλοιοκτήτριας εταιρείας ή την εθνικότητα των πληρωμάτων τους. Όπως είπε, το Υφυπουργείο Ναυτιλίας είχε εκδώσει σχετική εγκύκλιο προς τη ναυτιλιακή βιομηχανία ήδη από τις 28 Φεβρουαρίου 2026, την ημέρα κατά την οποία άρχισαν οι εχθροπραξίες στην περιοχή, με στόχο την ενημέρωση και τη λήψη προληπτικών μέτρων ασφαλείας. Σύμφωνα με τα στοιχεία που παρέθεσε η κ. Στην Κύπρο φέρεται να διαμένει ο πρώην αναπληρωτής πρόεδρος της Κεντρικής Τράπεζας της Ρωσίας, Γιούρι Ισάεφ, σύμφωνα με δημοσίευμα του ρωσικού ερευνητικού ιστότοπου Rucriminal.info, το οποίο επικαλείται ανώνυμες πηγές. Το δημοσίευμα υποστηρίζει ότι ο Ισάεφ εγκατέλειψε τη Ρωσία λίγο μετά την αποχώρησή του από την Κεντρική Τράπεζα και έκτοτε δεν έχει επιστρέψει στη χώρα. Κατά τις ίδιες πληροφορίες, έχει εγκατασταθεί στην Κύπρο, όπου η οικογένειά του φέρεται να διαθέτει ακίνητη περιουσία. Ο Ισάεφ υπηρέτησε για περισσότερα από δέκα χρόνια ως επικεφαλής της Ρωσικής Υπηρεσίας Ασφάλισης Καταθέσεων (ASV), ενώ τον Ιανουάριο του 2022 διορίστηκε αναπληρωτής πρόεδρος της Κεντρικής Τράπεζας της Ρωσίας. Τον Ιούνιο του ίδιου έτους εντάχθηκε και στην κυβερνητική επιτροπή που είναι αρμόδια για τον έλεγχο των ξένων επενδύσεων. Λίγους μήνες αργότερα έγινε γνωστή η αποχώρησή του από τη θέση. Σύμφωνα με το δημοσίευμα, ο Ισάεφ είχε στο παρελθόν διατελέσει σύμβουλος του πρώτου αναπληρωτή διευθυντή της FSB, της Ομοσπονδιακής Υπηρεσίας Ασφαλείας της Ρωσίας, ενώ το περιβάλλον του τον θεωρούσε πρόσωπο με διασυνδέσεις στις ρωσικές υπηρεσίες πληροφοριών. Ο ιστότοπος ισχυρίζεται επίσης ότι διατηρούσε στενές σχέσεις με τον επιχειρηματία Ιλία Τράμπερ, γνωστό με το προσωνύμιο «Αντίκας», ο οποίος έχει επανειλημμένα συνδεθεί από διεθνή μέσα ενημέρωσης με το οργανωμένο έγκλημα στη Ρωσία, χωρίς ο ίδιος να έχει αποδεχθεί τις σχετικές κατηγορίες. Το ίδιο δημοσίευμα αναφέρει ακόμη ότι ο Ισάεφ διατηρούσε σχέσεις με πρώην στελέχη της FSB και άλλους Ρώσους αξιωματούχους, αρκετοί από τους οποίους συνελήφθησαν τα τελευταία χρόνια στο πλαίσιο ερευνών για υποθέσεις διαφθοράς και οικονομικών εγκλημάτων. Ως ενδεικτικές περιπτώσεις αναφέρονται η σύλληψη του πρώην στελέχους της FSB Κίριλ Τσερκάλιν το 2019, του πρώην αναπληρωτή επικεφαλής της Διεύθυνσης «Κ» της FSB Ντμίτρι Φρόλοφ, καθώς και η σύλληψη, το 2025, του Αντρέι Μέλνικοφ, πρώην συνεργάτη και διαδόχου του Ισάεφ στην Υπηρεσία Ασφάλισης Καταθέσεων. Μέχρι στιγμής δεν υπάρχει επίσημη επιβεβαίωση από τις κυπριακές ή τις ρωσικές αρχές ότι ο Γιούρι Ισάεφ βρίσκεται στην Κύπρο.

Economic sentiment in Cyprus improved for the third consecutive month, rising marginally in June, on improved business and consumer confidence, according to the benchmark index compiled by the Economics Research Centre of the University of Cyprus.
