Η πραγματοποίηση συνάντησης για τη Γάζα στην Κυπριακή Δημοκρατία, στις 30 Ιουνίου και 1η Ιουλίου, προκαλεί προβληματισμό στην Άγκυρα, καθώς η Τουρκία δεν πρόκειται να συμμετάσχει. Παραμένει ανοιχτό το ενδεχόμενο παρουσίας ισραηλινής αντιπροσωπείας. Το θέμα αναδεικνύει το τουρκικό ειδησεογραφικό blog Yetkin Report, το οποίο χρησιμοποιεί τον όρο «νότια Κύπρος» για την Κυπριακή Δημοκρατία και διερωτάται γιατί η συνάντηση πραγματοποιείται στο νησί, παρά το γεγονός ότι ο Τούρκος Υπουργός Εξωτερικών, Χακάν Φιντάν, συμμετέχει στο λεγόμενο «Συμβούλιο Ειρήνης για τη Γάζα». Η συνάντηση πραγματοποιείται λίγες ημέρες πριν από τη Σύνοδο Κορυφής του ΝΑΤΟ, που θα φιλοξενηθεί στην Άγκυρα στις 7 και 8 Ιουλίου και στην οποία η τουρκική κυβέρνηση αποδίδει ιδιαίτερη πολιτική και διπλωματική σημασία. «Δεν συμμετέχουμε» λέει η Άγκυρα Ο εκπρόσωπος του τουρκικού Υπουργείου Εξωτερικών, Οντζού Κετσελί, ξεκαθάρισε ότι ούτε ο Χακάν Φιντάν ούτε άλλος εκπρόσωπος της Τουρκίας θα λάβει μέρος στη συνάντηση. Όπως ανέφερε στο Yetkin Report, δεν πρόκειται για επίσημη, κατά την έκφρασή του, συνεδρίαση του «Συμβουλίου Ειρήνης για τη Γάζα», αλλά για συνάντηση τεχνικού χαρακτήρα και εσωτερικού συντονισμού. Σύμφωνα με τον Κετσελί, στις εργασίες αναμένεται να συμμετάσχουν αξιωματούχοι του Γραφείου του Ύπατου Εκπροσώπου για τη Γάζα, εκπρόσωποι του Ινστιτούτου 'Τόνι Μπλερ' και στελέχη της Εθνικής Επιτροπής για τη Διοίκηση της Γάζας. Η τουρκική πλευρά υποστηρίζει, μάλιστα, ότι η συνάντηση παρουσιάστηκε σκοπίμως σε διεθνή μέσα ενημέρωσης ως επίσημη συνεδρίαση του Συμβουλίου για τη Γάζα, ενώ, κατά την Άγκυρα, δεν έχει αυτόν τον χαρακτήρα. Γιατί επιλέχθηκε η Κύπρος Το Yetkin Report θέτει το ερώτημα γιατί επιλέχθηκε η Κυπριακή Δημοκρατία για τη διοργάνωση της συνάντησης, από τη στιγμή που δεν εκπροσωπείται στο συγκεκριμένο Συμβούλιο. Η Κύπρος φέρεται να επιλέχθηκε για λόγους υλικοτεχνικής υποστήριξης και ευκολίας στις αεροπορικές μετακινήσεις, ενώ δεν αποκλείεται οι εργασίες να πραγματοποιηθούν σε βρετανική στρατιωτική βάση. Το Yetkin Report αμφισβητεί, ωστόσο, το συγκεκριμένο επιχείρημα, σημειώνοντας ότι, εάν το βασικό κριτήριο ήταν η πρόσβαση και οι αεροπορικές συνδέσεις, θα μπορούσε να επιλεγεί η Αττάλεια. Το Yetkin Report συνδέει την επιλογή της Κύπρου με τις δυνατότητες μετακίνησης της ισραηλινής αντιπροσωπείας, υποστηρίζοντας ότι, λόγω της αυξανόμενης διεθνούς απομόνωσης του Ισραήλ, εξαιτίας του πολέμου στη Γάζα, οι διαθέσιμες επιλογές στην περιοχή είναι περιορισμένες.
