Πέρα από την εκλογική διάσταση, το αποτέλεσμα της 24ης του Μάη είναι πρωτίστως μια κομβική πολιτική νίκη για την Αριστερά και τον ευρύτερο προοδευτικό χώρο της Κύπρου, ανέφερε ο ΓΓ του ΑΚΕΛ, Στέφανος Στεφάνου, μιλώντας το Σάββατο ενώπιον της Ολομέλειας της Κεντρικής Επιτροπής του ΑΚΕΛ, στη Λευκωσία, με θέμα την «Εκτίμηση των Βουλευτικών Εκλογών 2026». Στην εισαγωγική του ομιλία, ο κ. Στεφάνου σημείωσε ότι το ΑΚΕΛ κατάφερε να υλοποιήσει τον εκλογικό του στόχο, να ενισχύσει τις σχέσεις του με την κοινωνία και να βλέπει με αισιοδοξία την προοπτική του, και πρόσθεσε ότι το ΑΚΕΛ στις πρόσφατες εκλογές είχε την υψηλότερη συσπείρωση από όλα τα κόμματα -πάνω από 80%- ενώ σε όλες τις έρευνες γνώμης από την αρχή της προεκλογικής εκστρατείας οι ψηφοφόροι του Κόμματος ήταν οι πιο βέβαιοι και αποφασισμένοι για την ψήφο τους. Αυτό τουλάχιστον παρακολουθήσαμε με ήχο και εικόνα στην περίπτωση του Videogate, αυτό εισπράξαμε από την επιβολή αδιαφάνειας στην περίπτωση του Ταμείου της συζύγου του Προέδρου της Δημοκρατίας», συμπλήρωσε. Στεφάνου, το ΑΚΕΛ θα συνεχίσει να στέκεται με συνέπεια και αποφασιστικότητα στη αποδεδειγμένα ορθή πολιτική και γραμμή του για τη λύση. «Το ΑΚΕΛ είναι η ισχυρή δύναμη που μπορεί να σταθεί απέναντι από απόπειρες ξηλώματος του διαπραγματευτικού κεκτημένου ή σενάρια για εμπλοκή του ΝΑΤΟ στο Κυπριακό. Κυριότερα, το ΑΚΕΛ είναι η δύναμη που έχει το εκτόπισμα, τη γνώση και τη βούληση να σπρώξει τις εξελίξεις προς την κατεύθυνση της λύσης για τερματισμό της τουρκικής κατοχής και της επανένωσης της χώρας και του λαού μας, Ελληνοκυπρίων και Τουρκοκυπρίων. Σε αυτή την κατεύθυνση, και αναλόγως των εξελίξεων, θα αναλάβουμε πρωτοβουλίες έγκαιρης ενημέρωσης κι ενεργοποίησης της κοινωνίας, κάτι για το οποίο έχει ήδη καταρτιστεί πλάνο από τον Τομέα Κυπριακού της Κ.Ε. του Κόμματος», συμπλήρωσε. Αναφερόμενος στο αποτέλεσμα των Βουλευτικών Εκλογών, ο κ. Στεφάνου είπε ότι το αποτέλεσμα των εκλογών έχει επιβεβαιώσει όχι μόνο το ΑΚΕΛ ως την ισχυρή δύναμη της αντιπολίτευσης, αλλά και τον ισχυρό πόλο για τη δημιουργία ενός πλατιού προοδευτικού μετώπου με στόχο την προοδευτική αλλαγή στην Κύπρο. «Η Ολομέλεια της ΚΕ του Κόμματος καλείται σήμερα να εκτιμήσει το αποτέλεσμα των πρόσφατων Βουλευτικών Εκλογών του Μαΐου 2026. Κι ασφαλώς, μαζί με την εκτίμηση του αποτελέσματος, θα αξιολογήσουμε πώς έχει διαμορφωθεί ο κομματικός και πολιτικός χάρτης και θα οριοθετήσουμε τα πρώτιστα καθήκοντα που εγείρονται ενώπιον του Κόμματος. Το εκλογικό αποτέλεσμα που πετύχαμε, αποτελεί υλοποίηση του εκλογικού στόχου που είχαμε θέσει ως ΚΕ του Κόμματος, στη συνεδρία του Σώματος στις 27 Σεπτεμβρίου 2025. Και συγκεκριμένα, κατορθώσαμε να ενισχύσουμε την εκλογική δύναμη του Κόμματος σε σύγκριση με τις Βουλευτικές Εκλογές του 2021, όταν είχαμε λάβει 22,3%», συμπλήρωσε. Στις εκλογές του περασμένου Μαΐου, συνέχισε ο κ. Στεφάνου, το ΑΚΕΛ – Αριστερά – Κοινωνική Συμμαχία αύξησε την εκλογική δύναμή του κατά 1,6% και 9 χιλιάδες ψήφους, φτάνοντας στο 24% και διατηρώντας τις 15 έδρες που είχε στην προηγούμενη εκλογική περίοδο. Είπε, παράλληλα, ότι το αποτέλεσμα αποτελεί μεγάλη εκλογική επιτυχία «αν αναλογιστούμε ότι το Κόμμα είχε να αντιμετωπίσει την αντίληψη που διάφοροι κύκλοι με πολλούς τρόπους έχουν διαμορφώσει σε ένα σημαντικό μέρος της κοινωνίας ότι ‘’όλοι είναι οι ίδιοι’’». «Με αυτή την αντίληψη κόμματα και πολιτική απαξιώνονται στη συνείδηση μέρους της κοινωνίας κι αυτή η κατάσταση αναπόφευκτα επηρεάζει αρνητικά και το Κόμμα μας. Το ΑΚΕΛ είχε να αντιμετωπίσει επίσης, τον αριθμό ρεκόρ συμμετοχής κομμάτων και υποψηφίων. Παρά ταύτα, το Κόμμα μας κατάφερε να υλοποιήσει τον εκλογικό του στόχο, να ενισχύσει τις σχέσεις του με την κοινωνία και να βλέπει με αισιοδοξία την προοπτική του», πρόσθεσε. Σημείωσε ότι οι Βουλευτικές εκλογές είναι πλέον ιστορία. «Πανηγυρίσαμε για το αποτέλεσμα, το οποίο ομολογουμένως σκόρπισε αισθήματα ενθουσιασμού και αυτοπεποίθησης στον κόσμο μας, αλλά εμείς δεν μένουμε κολλημένοι ούτε και εφησυχάζουμε σε αυτό. Ζητήσαμε από τον κόσμο ένα ισχυρό ΑΚΕΛ για να μπορούμε να συνεχίσουμε δυνατά, μαχητικά και αποτελεσματικά να υπηρετούμε την Κύπρο μας και τον λαό μας. Να υπηρετούμε τους εργαζόμενους, τη νέα γενιά, τους ευάλωτους, την κοινωνία ολόκληρη. Αυτή την ισχυρή εντολή την πήραμε κι εμείς συνεχίζουμε τη δράση μας απ’ εκεί που δεν σταματήσαμε ποτέ», είπε. Για την προοδευτική αλλαγή, ανέφερε ο κ. Στεφάνου, θα συνεχίσουν να εργάζονται με τη φόρα της εκατοντάχρονης ιστορίας τους και την εμπειρία των σκληρών, ηρωικών, πατριωτικών και ταξικών αγώνων τους. «Πάμε δυνατά με το βλέμμα στο μέλλον. Εν μέσω του ψυχρού πολέμου (ΗΠΑ+ΝΑΤΟ εναντίον Σοβιετικής Ένωσης), η προτεραιότητα των ΗΠΑ ήταν ο «σοβιετικός κίνδυνος». Η Τουρκία υπό στρατοκρατικό έλεγχο και λόγω γεωγραφικής εγγύτητας προς την Σοβιετική Ένωση, είχε μια «υπεραξία» για τις ΗΠΑ έναντι της Ελλάδας. Το συγκριτικό πλεονέκτημα της Ελλάδας ήταν ότι μια ολοκληρωτική σύγκρουση Ελλάδας-Τουρκίας, δύο χωρών εντός ΝΑΤΟ, θα ήταν τεράστιο πλήγμα για τις ΗΠΑ ενόψει του «σοβιετικού κινδύνου» και καθιστούσε επάναγκες την αποτροπή ενός ελληνοτουρκικού πολέμου. Το «δώρο» στην Τουρκία προσέφερε η Χούντα στην Αθήνα, η οποία προετοίμασε πριν και εν τέλει διέπραξε το πραξικόπημα κατά του Προέδρου Μακαρίου ώστε να εισβάλει η Τουρκία. Κι όταν η Τουρκία προχώρησε στην εισβολή, το χουντικό καθεστώς όχι μόνο δεν επενέβηκε αλλά εφάρμοσε «σκόπιμη αδράνεια» στην Κύπρο ώστε να επιτύχει η τουρκική εισβολή. Η πιο πάνω σύνοψη όσων συνέβηκαν, παρατίθεται για να αντλήσουμε ένα μάθημα, ειδικά τώρα λόγω Ευρωάμυνας. Το κυριότερο επιχείρημα για συνεργασία ΕΕ-Τουρκίας στην άμυνα είναι ότι η Τουρκία αποτελεί μέλος του ΝΑΤΟ, όπως κι η πλειοψηφία των κρατών-μελών της ΕΕ. Άλλωστε, κάποια κράτη-μέλη συνεργάζονται ήδη στην συμπαραγωγή εξοπλισμών με την Τουρκία. Και γνωρίζουν ότι η Τουρκία ήταν ο στενός σύμμαχος του «Ισλαμικού Κράτους» και τρομοκρατικών οργανώσεων όπως της «Χαμάς» και «Αδελφών Μουσουλμάνων». Γνωρίζουν ότι κατά την εισβολή της Ρωσίας στην Ουκρανία, η στάση του καθεστώτος Ερντογάν ήταν «διπλή», με το ΝΑΤΟ και με τον Πούτιν, ενώ η νεο-οθωμανική επεκτατική πολιτική συνεχίστηκε σε Συρία, Λιβύη, Αιγαίο και Ανατ. Μεσόγειο. Γιατί όμως άλλα κράτη-μέλη της ΕΕ αναθέτουν ρόλο στην Τουρκία για την Ευρωάμυνα; Γιατί κρίνουν ότι τους συμφέρει και το θεωρούν εφικτό λόγω της στάσης μας. Ο νεο-οθωμανικός επεκτατισμός συνεχίζει να κατέχει μέρος της Κύπρου ζητώντας «δύο κράτη», παραβιάζει τον θαλάσσιο και εναέριο χώρο της Ελλάδας, σχεδιάζει την επέκταση στο μισό Αιγαίο και σε όλη την Ανατ. Μεσόγειο. Ταυτοχρόνως, έχει «παγώσει» η επέκταση εθνικών κυριαρχικών δικαιωμάτων, η οριοθέτηση ΑΟΖ Ελλάδας-Κύπρου δεν υπάρχει, η πόντιση ενός καλωδίου σε διεθνή ύδατα στο Αιγαίο στο πλαίσιο ευρωπαϊκού έργου παρεμποδίζεται από την Τουρκία κ.ά. Όμως, η έμπρακτη προάσπιση θέσεων, θα είχε δύο ενδεχόμενα. Είτε υποχώρηση του επεκτατιστή, είτε για να διασωθεί η Ευρωάμυνα και το ΝΑΤΟ, θα επιβαλλόταν κόστος στον επεκτατιστή. Ωστόσο, ο πρωθυπουργός στην Αθήνα διερωτάται «που έχουμε υποχωρήσει» κι ο Υπουργός Εξωτερικών αναδεικνύει την σημασία των «ήρεμων νερών». Ο Ελληνισμός οφείλει να έχει σημαίνοντα ρόλο στην Ευρωάμυνα γιατί αφορά την επιβίωσή μας. Η Λευκωσία κινήθηκε με σαφή προσανατολισμό στην Ευρωάμυνα και τις ΗΠΑ, αλλά η Αθήνα παραμένει παθητικός τροφοδότης του τουρκικού επεκτατισμού. Στην εποχή μας, το συγκριτικό πλεονέκτημα αφορά μια πανεθνική στρατηγική αποτροπής με επίκεντρο την ισχύ εντός της ΕΕ. Στις διεθνείς σχέσεις, η βάσιμη προσδοκία δεν στηρίζεται σε ευχολόγια, ούτε στην πατριδοκάπηλη ρητορική, αλλά στην ορθολογική στρατηγική. Καταληκτικά, ο τουρκικός επεκτατισμός δεν αντιμετωπίζεται με φοβίες και εγχώριες θεωρίες, ούτε με Μέτρα Οικοδόμησης Εμπιστοσύνης σε διμερές επίπεδο και άλλα «δώρα» στην ΕΕ, αλλά με αποφασιστική στάση και πράξεις που προκαλούν κόστος στον επεκτατιστή.
