Σε εξέλιξη βρίσκεται επιχείρηση της Διεύθυνσης Αντιμετώπισης Οργανωμένου Εγκλήματος (ΔΑΟΕ), στο πλαίσιο των συνεχιζόμενων ερευνών για τη σύλληψη ατόμων που εμπλέκονται στην εμπρηστική επίθεση της 5ης Μαΐου 2010 στην τράπεζα της Marfin στην οδό Σταδίου, στην Αθήνα, που είχε ως αποτέλεσμα να χάσουν τη ζωή τους τρεις εργαζόμενοι. Σύμφωνα με την ενημέρωση των Αρχών, μέχρι στιγμής έχουν συλληφθεί δύο άτομα, κατόπιν σχετικών ενταλμάτων σύλληψης, ενώ για την ίδια υπόθεση κατηγορείται ακόμη μία γυναίκα, σε βάρος της οποίας έχει επίσης εκδοθεί ένταλμα. Πρόκειται για δύο άνδρες γεννηθέντες το 1984, ενώ η γυναίκα που αναζητείται είναι γεννηθείσα το 1980. Σημειώνεται ότι, τα στελέχη της Αντιτρομοκρατικής επεξεργάστηκαν το βιντεοληπτικό υλικό, βελτίωσαν την ευκρίνεια των εικόνων και το συνέκριναν με καταγραφές από άλλες ενέργειες που αποδίδονται στον ίδιο αντιεξουσιαστικό χώρο. Μέσα από τη συνδυαστική αξιολόγηση του υλικού, κατάφεραν να ταυτοποιήσουν τα πρόσωπα που φέρονται να εμπλέκονται στην υπόθεση. Οι έρευνες βρίσκονται σε εξέλιξη και αναμένεται νεότερη ενημέρωση από τις Αρχές. Οι δράστες είχαν παρεισφρήσει στη μεγάλη πορεία διαμαρτυρίας κατά των μέτρων λιτότητας που είχαν ανακοινωθεί λίγες ημέρες νωρίτερα και πέταξαν βόμβες μολότοφ στο κτίριο, ενώ στο εσωτερικό του βρίσκονταν δεκάδες εργαζόμενοι. Τη στιγμή της επίθεσης περισσότεροι από 20 άνθρωποι βρίσκονταν μέσα στο κτίριο της Σταδίου. Παρά τις απέλπιδες προσπάθειες διαφυγής, οι τρεις εργαζόμενοι εγκλωβίστηκαν και έχασαν τη ζωή τους από τη φωτιά και τις αναθυμιάσεις.Πηγή: Τhe TOC
Η προσπάθεια για τη διεκδίκηση ευρωπαϊκών κονδυλίων για τους Κύπριους εκτοπισμένους συνεχίζεται με ουσιαστικά βήματα προόδου. Στο πλαίσιο των ενεργειών για τη δικαίωσή τους και σε συνέχεια της πρωτοβουλίας του Ευρωβουλευτή του Δημοκρατικού Συναγερμού και του Ευρωπαϊκού Λαϊκού Κόμματος, Μιχάλη Χατζηπαντέλα, κατατέθηκε σχετική τροπολογία στην Έκθεση της Κοινής Αγροτικής Πολιτικής για την περίοδο 2028-2034. Μεταξύ άλλων, στην τροπολογία τονίζεται ότι «επί δεκαετίες, οι πολίτες της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας που κατέχουν τίτλους ιδιοκτησίας νομίμως αναγνωρισμένους βάσει του δικαίου της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας εμποδίζονται από την πρόσβαση, τη χρήση και την άντληση εισοδήματος από τη γεωργική τους γη, ως αποτέλεσμα της συνεχιζόμενης κατοχής από την Τουρκία». Όπως σημειώνεται, «η κατάσταση αυτή έχει προκαλέσει διαρκή κοινωνικοοικονομικά μειονεκτήματα, συμπεριλαμβανομένων μειωμένων ευκαιριών για γεωργικό εισόδημα καθώς και διαγενεακής οικονομικής απώλειας». Μείζονος σημασίας είναι η αναφορά ότι «ουδεμία διάταξη του κανονισμού θα πρέπει να ερμηνεύεται ότι υπονοεί την αναγνώριση, ή ότι παρέχει οποιοδήποτε δικαίωμα ή όφελος» στην τουρκοκυπριακή αποσχιστική οντότητα. Με βάση την τροπολογία, η Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή «καλείται να εξετάσει τη δημιουργία πρόσθετων, ειδικών και στοχευμένων χρηματοδοτικών μηχανισμών, για την αντιμετώπιση των μειονεκτημάτων που απορρέουν από την ανωτέρω κατάσταση, για τους νόμιμους ιδιοκτήτες οι οποίοι μπορούν να αποδείξουν τον νόμιμο τίτλο και την αντικειμενική αδυναμία πρόσβασης και χρήσης της εν λόγω γης». Σε δηλώσεις του, ο Ευρωβουλευτής Μιχάλης Χατζηπαντέλα ανέδειξε ότι έχουν γίνει σημαντικά βήματα προόδου για τη θεμελίωση μιας διεκδίκησης που οφείλαμε εδώ και δεκαετίες στους εκτοπισμένους συμπατριώτες μας. «Είναι μια προσωπική δέσμευση, με πρωταρχικό στόχο να ανοίξει ο δρόμος για τη μετατροπή μιας ιστορικής πολιτικής αναφοράς, σε απτή και μετρήσιμη δικαίωση για κάθε εκτοπισμένο Κύπριο και κάθε εκτοπισμένη Κύπρια», υπογράμμισε ο κ. Economic sentiment in Cyprus improved for the third consecutive month, rising marginally in June, on improved business and consumer confidence, according to the benchmark index compiled by the Economics Research Centre of the University of Cyprus. The June Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI-CypERC) increased by 0.2 points to 100.8 points compared with 100.6 in May, driven by stronger business confidence in the retail trade and construction sectors, alongside further gains in consumer confidence.
