Παρά το γεγονός ότι η πλειοψηφία των ευρωβουλευτών καταψήφισε την πρόταση, το Ευρωπαϊκό Κοινοβούλιο ενέκρινε την παράταση της νομοθεσίας που επιτρέπει στις μεγάλες τεχνολογικές εταιρείες να σαρώνουν εθελοντικά ιδιωτικές ηλεκτρονικές επικοινωνίες για τον εντοπισμό υλικού σεξουαλικής κακοποίησης παιδιών. Η παράταση του προσωρινού μέτρου, γνωστού στους επικριτές του ως «Chat Control», διατηρεί σε ισχύ μέχρι το 2028 το νομικό πλαίσιο που επιτρέπει σε εταιρείες όπως η Meta, η Google και η Microsoft να ελέγχουν μηνύματα, ηλεκτρονικά ταχυδρομεία και επικοινωνίες μέσω κοινωνικών δικτύων, εφόσον το επιλέγουν. Οι συνομιλίες που προστατεύονται με κρυπτογράφηση από άκρο σε άκρο (end-to-end encryption), όπως στο WhatsApp και το Signal, εξαιρούνται. Αιμιλιανίδης: «Βαθύτατα αντιδημοκρατικό και ντροπιαστικό» Ιδιαίτερα επικριτικός εμφανίστηκε και ο Κοσμήτορας της Νομικής Σχολής του Πανεπιστημίου Λευκωσίας, Αχιλλέας Αιμιλιανίδης. Σε ανάρτησή του ανέφερε ότι το προσωρινό Chat Control 1.0, που εφαρμόζεται από το 2021, είχε απορριφθεί στις 26 Μαρτίου 2026, όταν το Ευρωπαϊκό Κοινοβούλιο καταψήφισε την παράτασή του ενόσω συνεχίζονται οι διαπραγματεύσεις για το μόνιμο Chat Control 2.0. Όπως σημειώνει, η ίδια πρόταση επανήλθε αιφνιδιαστικά με τη μορφή κατεπείγοντος και εγκρίθηκε, παρότι για δεύτερη φορά συγκέντρωσε περισσότερες αρνητικές παρά θετικές ψήφους. «Να επαναφέρεις μέσα στο καλοκαίρι ως κατεπείγον αυτό που απορρίφθηκε πριν τρεις μήνες και να το εγκρίνεις, παρά το ότι ξανά καταψηφίστηκε από την πλειοψηφία, δεν συνάδει με τη δική μου αντίληψη για τη λειτουργία της δημοκρατίας», ανέφερε χαρακτηριστικά. Η συζήτηση για το Chat Control 2.0, το οποίο προβλέπεται να αποτελέσει το μόνιμο ευρωπαϊκό πλαίσιο για την αντιμετώπιση της διαδικτυακής σεξουαλικής κακοποίησης παιδιών, συνεχίζεται και αναμένεται να προκαλέσει νέα αντιπαράθεση μεταξύ όσων δίνουν προτεραιότητα στην προστασία των ανηλίκων και όσων προειδοποιούν για σοβαρούς κινδύνους στα θεμελιώδη δικαιώματα της ιδιωτικότητας και του απορρήτου των επικοινωνιών.
Σε εντατικούς ρυθμούς συνεχίζει ο Επαρχιακός Οργανισμός Αυτοδιοίκησης (ΕΟΑ) Λάρνακας την καταγραφή, αξιολόγηση και διαχείριση των επικίνδυνων οικοδομών στην επαρχία, εφαρμόζοντας σχέδιο δράσης με στόχο την προστασία της δημόσιας ασφάλειας. Σύμφωνα με τον ΕΟΑ Λάρνακας, με την ανάληψη των αρμοδιοτήτων από τις πρώην αρμόδιες αρχές παραλήφθηκε μητρώο με 563 δυνητικά επικίνδυνες οικοδομές. Μετά την επικαιροποίηση των στοιχείων, τις επιτόπιες καταγραφές και την αξιολόγηση νέων αναφορών από πολίτες, Δήμους και Κοινότητες, ο αριθμός τους ανέρχεται σήμερα στις 1.084. Στο πλαίσιο της αξιολόγησης έχουν ανατεθεί 310 οπτικοί έλεγχοι σε ιδιώτες πολιτικούς μηχανικούς, ενώ έχουν ολοκληρωθεί 228 τεχνικές εκθέσεις. Από αυτές, 204 οικοδομές χαρακτηρίστηκαν επικίνδυνες και 116 κατατάχθηκαν στην υψηλότερη κατηγορία επικινδυνότητας, καθώς παρουσιάζουν ορατό κίνδυνο κατάρρευσης. Ο Οργανισμός αναφέρει ότι μέχρι σήμερα έχουν πραγματοποιηθεί 31 παρεμβάσεις για την άρση της επικινδυνότητας, οι οποίες περιλαμβάνουν περιφράξεις επικίνδυνων οικοδομών είτε από τον ίδιο τον ΕΟΑ είτε από τους ιδιοκτήτες τους, κατεδάφιση τριών οικοδομών από τους ιδιοκτήτες έπειτα από παρέμβαση του Οργανισμού, καθώς και ανάθεση μελετών και έργων αποκατάστασης από ιδιοκτήτες, μετά από σχετικές ειδοποιήσεις. Παράλληλα, προχωρούν οι διαδικασίες κήρυξης επικίνδυνων οικοδομών. Μέχρι στιγμής έχουν κηρυχθεί οκτώ οικοδομές ως επικίνδυνες, με την ολοκλήρωση των απαιτούμενων τοιχοκολλήσεων, δημοσιεύσεων και επιδόσεων ειδοποιήσεων προς τους ιδιοκτήτες. Επιπλέον, βρίσκονται σε προχωρημένο στάδιο οι διαδικασίες για ακόμη δέκα οικοδομές, ενώ σε μία περίπτωση εκδόθηκε προσωρινό διάταγμα εκκένωσης λόγω μη συμμόρφωσης των ιδιοκτητών. Όπως επισημαίνει ο ΕΟΑ Λάρνακας, η διαχείριση των επικίνδυνων οικοδομών βασίζεται σε ολοκληρωμένο επιχειρησιακό σχέδιο, το οποίο περιλαμβάνει την ψηφιακή καταγραφή του μητρώου, τη διενέργεια οπτικών ελέγχων, την αξιολόγηση των τεχνικών εκθέσεων, την κατηγοριοποίηση των οικοδομών ανάλογα με τον βαθμό επικινδυνότητας και, όπου απαιτείται, τη λήψη μέτρων προστασίας, εκκένωσης και επιβολής διοικητικών ή δικαστικών διαδικασιών. Σύμφωνα με τις μέχρι σήμερα τεχνικές αξιολογήσεις για 209 οικοδομές, το εκτιμώμενο κόστος των απαιτούμενων μέτρων άρσης της επικινδυνότητας ανέρχεται σε περίπου 5,94 εκατομμύρια ευρώ. Ο ΕΟΑ Λάρνακας καλεί τους ιδιοκτήτες να συνεργάζονται με τις αρμόδιες υπηρεσίες και να ανταποκρίνονται στις σχετικές ειδοποιήσεις, λαμβάνοντας τα απαραίτητα μέτρα για την αποκατάσταση των υποστατικών τους. Παράλληλα, καλεί τους πολίτες να ενημερώνουν τον Οργανισμό όταν εντοπίζουν οικοδομές που ενδέχεται να εγκυμονούν κινδύνους για τη δημόσια ασφάλεια, ώστε να διενεργούνται οι απαραίτητοι έλεγχοι και να λαμβάνονται έγκαιρα τα προβλεπόμενα μέτρα. Economic sentiment in Cyprus improved for the third consecutive month, rising marginally in June, on improved business and consumer confidence, according to the benchmark index compiled by the Economics Research Centre of the University of Cyprus.
