Προσπάθεια κοινής προώθησης των δημόσιων και ιδιωτικών πανεπιστημίων της Κύπρου στο εξωτερικό, και τη δημιουργία ενός οργανισμού στα πρότυπα του British Council, ώστε να ενισχυθεί η προσέλκυση ποιοτικών φοιτητών από το εξωτερικό γνωστοποίησε ο Πρόεδρος της Δημοκρατίας Νίκος Χριστοδουλίδης, στον χαιρετισμό του κατά την Τελετή Απονομής Βραβείων και Αριστείων 2026 του Πανεπιστημίου Frederick στο Δημοτικό Θέατρο Λευκωσίας. Ανέδειξε παράλληλα τη σημασία του τομέα της εκπαίδευσης στην Κύπρο σημειώνοντας ότι η συνεισφορά του ανέρχεται περίπου στο 7%-8% στο ΑΕΠ της χώρας και υπογράμμισε την ανάγκη διασφάλισης της ποιότητας των προγραμμάτων σπουδών. Στον χαιρετισμό του, ο Πρόεδρος σημείωσε ότι η ανεργία στην Κύπρο βρίσκεται κάτω από το 4%, ενώ το 82% των αποφοίτων εργάζεται στο αντικείμενο των σπουδών του. Εξήρε παράλληλα την πορεία και τη συμβολή του πανεπιστημίου στην ανώτατη εκπαίδευση, αναφέροντας χαρακτηριστικά ότι «χωρίς κρατική ενίσχυση, πόσα έχετε καταφέρει», αναφερόμενος στην αναπτυξιακή του πορεία και τα επιτεύγματά του. Ο Πρόεδρος έκανε ιδιαίτερη αναφορά στην ίδρυση της Ιατρικής Σχολής του Πανεπιστημίου Frederick, χαρακτηρίζοντάς την ως ένα σημαντικό βήμα στην αναπτυξιακή πορεία του ιδρύματος. Παράλληλα, σημείωσε ότι εξίσου αξιόλογη είναι η συμβολή του πανεπιστημίου στην καλλιέργεια κουλτούρας ακαδημαϊκής ευθύνης, μέσα από δράσεις εθελοντισμού, καινοτομίας και έρευνας. Σημείωσε παράλληλα ότι η ολοκλήρωση διδακτορικών σπουδών «δεν συνιστά απλώς την απόκτηση ενός ακαδημαϊκού τίτλου υψηλού επιπέδου, αλλά αποτυπώνει την ικανότητα να αμφισβητείτε, να ερευνάτε, να συνθέτετε νέα γνώση και να συμβάλλετε ουσιαστικά στην πρόοδο της επιστήμης και της κοινωνίας». Αναφερόμενος στο Πανεπιστήμιο Frederick, είπε ότι το ίδρυμα «έχει καταφέρει, μέσα από μια διαρκώς εξελισσόμενη διαδρομή, να εδραιωθεί ως ένα από τα πιο σημαντικά Ιδρύματα Ανώτερης Εκπαίδευσης της χώρας μας», προσθέτοντας ότι η συνεχής επένδυση σε υποδομές, τεχνολογία, έρευνα και διεθνείς συνεργασίες δημιουργεί σημαντικές προοπτικές για τη φοιτητική και ερευνητική κοινότητα. Αναφέρθηκε επίσης στην απόφαση για ίδρυση Ιατρικής Σχολής σε συνεργασία με το Πανεπιστήμιο του Μάντσεστερ, σημειώνοντας ότι αυτή «αποτελεί ακόμη ένα βήμα της συνεχούς αναπτυξιακής πορείας του Πανεπιστημίου, του οράματος των ανθρώπων του, που επιβεβαιώνει και τη δυναμική της Ανώτερης Εκπαίδευσης στη χώρα μας». Παράλληλα, εξήρε τη συνεισφορά του Πανεπιστημίου στην κοινωνία, αναφέροντας ότι «οι φοιτητές και οι φοιτήτριές του, πέραν από τις ακαδημαϊκές τους επιδόσεις, διακρίνονται για τις δράσεις εθελοντισμού, καινοτομίας και έρευνας, αποδεικνύοντας ότι η γνώση αποκτά πραγματική αξία όταν συνδέεται με την προσφορά προς τον άνθρωπο και την κοινωνία». Στρατηγική για την ανώτερη εκπαίδευση Ο Πρόεδρος υπογράμμισε ότι η Κύπρος βρίσκεται ενώπιον σημαντικών προκλήσεων, καθώς «βιώνουμε κοσμοϊστορικές αλλαγές» που συνδέονται με τις γεωπολιτικές ανακατατάξεις, την τεχνολογική εξέλιξη και την ψηφιακή μετάβαση, τονίζοντας ότι υπό αυτές τις συνθήκες η ανώτερη εκπαίδευση αποκτά στρατηγική σημασία για την παραγωγή γνώσης, την καινοτομία και την ανάπτυξη ανθρώπινου δυναμικού υψηλής εξειδίκευσης. Όπως ανέφερε, η Κυβέρνηση υλοποιεί «μια συνεκτική στρατηγική για την Ανώτερη Εκπαίδευση της Κύπρου», με στόχο την αξιοποίηση του ανθρώπινου δυναμικού της χώρας και τη δημιουργία ευκαιριών για τους νέους να πρωτοπορούν. Στο πλαίσιο αυτό, σημείωσε ότι ο τομέας της εκπαίδευσης αντιστοιχεί στο 7%-8% του ΑΕΠ της χώρας, επισημαίνοντας ωστόσο ότι «δεν πρέπει να παρασυρθούμε» από τα ποσοτικά δεδομένα, αλλά να δοθεί έμφαση στη διασφάλιση της ποιότητας των προγραμμάτων σπουδών. Αναφερόμενος στην αγορά εργασίας, είπε ότι η ανεργία στην Κύπρο βρίσκεται σήμερα κάτω από το 4%, προσθέτοντας ότι η χώρα διαθέτει ένα από τα υψηλότερα ποσοστά αποφοίτων που εργοδοτούνται στο αντικείμενο των σπουδών τους, το οποίο «ξεπερνά το 82%», γεγονός που, όπως είπε, καταδεικνύει την ανάγκη διασύνδεσης των σπουδών με τις ανάγκες της αγοράς εργασίας. Ο Πρόεδρος τόνισε ακόμη ότι η σύγχρονη πραγματικότητα απαιτεί «επιστήμονες με υψηλή κατάρτιση, κριτική σκέψη, ερευνητική επάρκεια και ισχυρό αίσθημα κοινωνικής ευθύνης», καθώς και «ερευνητές που να διευρύνουν τα όρια της επιστήμης» και νέους με όραμα, δημιουργικότητα και προσήλωση στις αρχές της δημοκρατίας, της ισότητας και της κοινωνικής συνοχής. Βραβεύσεις και στους φοιτητές ιδιωτικών πανεπιστημίων Ο Πρόεδρος ανακοίνωσε επίσης ότι από την επόμενη χρονιά η Πολιτεία θα βραβεύει τους αριστεύσαντες φοιτητές και των ιδιωτικών πανεπιστημίων της χώρας και όχι μόνο των δημόσιων ιδρυμάτων. Επιπρόσθετα, γνωστοποίησε ότι έχει ήδη ξεκινήσει η προεργασία για την προώθηση των δημόσιων και ιδιωτικών πανεπιστημίων της Κύπρου στο εξωτερικό, με στόχο τη δημιουργία ενός οργανισμού στα πρότυπα του British Council για την προσέλκυση ποιοτικών φοιτητών από άλλες χώρες. Συνεχάρη το Συμβούλιο, την Πρυτανεία, το ακαδημαϊκό και διοικητικό προσωπικό του Πανεπιστημίου Frederick για το έργο που επιτελούν, ενώ απευθυνόμενος στους αποφοίτους και βραβευθέντες της βραδιάς τόνισε ότι «η Κύπρος, η πατρίδα μας, σάς χρειάζεται». Απευθυνόμενος στους βραβευθέντες και τους νέους διδάκτορες, τους κάλεσε «να αξιοποιήσουν την επιστημονική γνώση όχι αποκλειστικά ως μέσο επαγγελματικής ανέλιξης, αλλά και ως εργαλείο κοινωνικής προόδου και συλλογικής ευημερίας» και να υπηρετούν την επιστήμη «με ακαδημαϊκή ακεραιότητα, σεβασμό στην επιστημονική δεοντολογία και προσήλωση στις αξίες του ανθρωπισμού και της ελευθερίας της σκέψης». Η θέση του πανεπιστημίου στην κατάταξη Times Higher Education Στη δική του ομιλία ο Πρύτανης του Πανεπιστημίου Frederick, Ανδρέας Δημοσθένους, ανέδειξε τη συνεχή αναπτυξιακή πορεία του πανεπιστημίου, σημειώνοντας ότι η τελετή συμπίπτει με τη συμπλήρωση 60 χρόνων προσφοράς του Εκπαιδευτικού Οργανισμού Frederick στην κυπριακή εκπαίδευση και 19 χρόνων πανεπιστημιακής παρουσίας. Ανέφερε επίσης ότι σύμφωνα με τη διεθνή κατάταξη Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, το Πανεπιστήμιο Frederick κατατάσσεται σταθερά από το 2022 πρώτο μεταξύ των πανεπιστημίων της Κύπρου. Μάλιστα, ανακοίνωσε τα αποτελέσματα της κατάταξης για το 2026, τα οποία δημοσιοποιήθηκαν την ίδια ημέρα, αναφέροντας ότι «ανάμεσα σε 1.607 πανεπιστήμια από όλο τον κόσμο, το Πανεπιστήμιο Frederick συγκαταλέγεται στα τρία κορυφαία πανεπιστήμια σε Κύπρο και Ελλάδα που μοιράζονται την υψηλότερη θέση στη γενική κατάταξη, αποτελώντας το μοναδικό μη κρατικό πανεπιστήμιο που επιτυγχάνει αυτή τη διάκριση». Παράλληλα, είπε ότι το πανεπιστήμιο καταλαμβάνει θέσεις μεταξύ 101 και 200 παγκοσμίως σε τέσσερις Στόχους Βιώσιμης Ανάπτυξης,«στην ποιοτική εκπαίδευση, στην καθαρή και προσιτή ενέργεια, στη μείωση των ανισοτήτων και στη συνεργασία για την επίτευξη των στόχων». Ο κ. Δημοσθένους σημείωσε ότι το Πανεπιστήμιο Frederick «καταγράφει σήμερα μια σταθερή, ανοδική και δυναμική πορεία», προσθέτοντας ότι αποτελεί το μοναδικό πανεπιστήμιο με άδεια λειτουργίας τόσο στη Λευκωσία όσο και στη Λεμεσό. Ανέφερε ακόμη ότι το ίδρυμα διαθέτει φοιτητικό πληθυσμό που ξεπερνά τις 5.500, πέντε σχολές, 13 τμήματα και περισσότερα από 80 πιστοποιημένα προγράμματα σπουδών. Ιδιαίτερη αναφορά έκανε στην ερευνητική δραστηριότητα του πανεπιστημίου, αναφέροντας ότι σύμφωνα με στοιχεία του Ιδρύματος Έρευνας και Καινοτομίας για την περίοδο 2021-2025, το Πανεπιστήμιο Frederick συγκαταλέγεται στους σημαντικότερους ερευνητικούς οργανισμούς της Κύπρου και κατατάσσεται πρώτο μεταξύ των μη κρατικών πανεπιστημίων και ερευνητικών κέντρων της χώρας. Όπως είπε, «την τελευταία δεκαετία, μέσω άκρως ανταγωνιστικών διαδικασιών και χωρίς κρατική ενίσχυση, προσελκύσαμε εξωτερική χρηματοδότηση που ξεπερνά τα 200 εκατομμύρια ευρώ για προγράμματα έρευνας και καινοτομίας», ενώ παράλληλα έχουν αναπτυχθεί συνεργασίες με περισσότερα από 400 πανεπιστήμια και ερευνητικά κέντρα σε 75 χώρες. Αναφερόμενος στη συμμετοχή του πανεπιστημίου στην Ευρωπαϊκή Συμμαχία Πανεπιστημίων EU-CONEXUS, δήλωσε ότι πρόκειται για «το πρώτο μη κρατικό πανεπιστήμιο της Κύπρου που πέτυχε κάτι τέτοιο», χαρακτηρίζοντάς το ως ύψιστη διάκριση. Πρόσθεσε ακόμη ότι σύντομα το πανεπιστήμιο θα συγκαταλέγεται στα ελάχιστα ιδρύματα της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης που θα λάβουν την πιστοποίηση Joint European Green Label για το κοινό μεταπτυχιακό πρόγραμμα της συμμαχίας. Εκτακτο παγκύπριο συνέδριο θα πραγματοποιήσει η ΕΔΕΚ στις 5 Ιουλίου. Ανακοίνωση του κόμματος αναφέρει ότι το Πολιτικό Γραφείο της ΕΔΕΚ σε συνεδρίαση του, υιοθέτησε την πρόταση του Προέδρου του κόμματος, Νίκου Αναστασίου, όπως, αντί της συνεδρίασης της Κεντρικής Επιτροπής, που ήταν προγραμματισμένη για τις 28 Ιουνίου 2026, προκηρυχθεί ανοικτό Έκτακτο Παγκύπριο Συνέδριο, για τις 5 Ιουλίου 2026. "Μετά το αρνητικό αποτέλεσμα των βουλευτικών εκλογών του Μαΐου και την αποτυχία να εξασφαλίσει το κόμμα είσοδο στο Κοινοβούλιο αφού έλαβε παγκύπριο ποσοστό ψήφων 3.3% και λαμβάνοντας σοβαρά υπόψη τις συζητήσεις-προβληματισμούς που αναπτύχθηκαν στη συνεδρίαση της Κεντρικής Επιτροπής στις 7 Ιουνίου, αποφάσισα, ασκώντας τις εξουσίες που μου παρέχει το Άρθρο31 - Παράγραφος 2 του Καταστατικού του κόμματος, να συγκαλέσω Έκτακτο Συνέδριο την Κυριακή 5 Ιουλίου 2026", ανέφερε ο κ. Αναστασίου. Πρόσθεσε ότι σκοπός και στόχος είναι να δοθεί, όσο το δυνατό σε περισσότερα μέλη, το δικαίωμα να εκφραστούν ελεύθερα και δημοκρατικά. "Η απόφαση μου εδράζεται στην ανάγκη να παρθούν αποφάσεις και να δρομολογηθούν ενέργειες προς τη κατεύθυνση του ανασχεδιασμού της δράσης του κόμματος, με στόχο τη συνέχιση της πολιτικής του παρέμβασης, σε εθνικό και κοινωνικό επίπεδο" είπε, σύμφωνα με την ανακοίνωση. Ανέφερε ακόμα ότι απαιτούνται αποφάσεις και ενέργειες, έτσι ώστε η ΕΔΕΚ να μπορέσει να αναπτύξει αποτελεσματικότερη δράση παρέμβασης και αντιμετώπισης των προβλημάτων που απειλούν και ταλανίζουν την Κύπρο. Όπως σημειώνεται, το Έκτακτο Συνέδριο συγκαλείται για συζήτηση ενημέρωση και αποφάσεις στα πιο κάτω θέματα: 1. Απόφαση Κεντρικής Επιτροπής της 7ης Ιουνίου 2026 για την προκήρυξη Καταστατικού, Ιδεολογικό – Πολιτικού και Εκλογικού Συνεδρίου, 2.
